Taken yesterday on the Capital Trail at Rocketts. The new General Assembly building is going to stand out a lot more than I had imagined and you can see the VCU outpatient building on the right edge.

Holy crap, I did not even notice the elevator shaft from over here.  I expected the building to be visible but not to that degree.

Great picture, George. The GA building will definitely be notable given that the crown will rise up at least a floor or two beyond the max floor total (15 stories, correct?). ALSO - the Children's Hospital expansion will fill up that space next to City Hall quite prominently - and add five floors to what you see of the outpatient building - and that will give you a good idea as to how much that building will stick out above the skyline there.

Now if that 20-story building (the recent proposal left over from NH) goes up, that end of the skyline will REALLY beef up nicely (combined with these three buildings going up now).

AMEN, brother! I can't remember EVER seeing 5 cranes up over downtown simultaneously. Even during the boom years of the '80s when the James Center was being built. Pandemic aside, Richmond has been on quite a tear and if it keeps going, it will be an unprecedented time. Much as I kvetch about what COULD have been, I am quite happy to see this kind of progress and growth happening.

Thinking back, I believe we have been managing to consistently keep 4-5 tower cranes up for the past couple years.  We may need to raise that bar!  Amazing that we used to get excited over just A crane.

This past Saturday I was on 895 looking towards the skyline and noticed the GA elevator shaft was quite prominent even from that angle.  GA Building will fill the gap between City Hall and Bank of America.  Also from this same angle the void in the skyline by the implosion of the James River Plaza will blocked by Riverfront Plaza.

Since my smarty tongue is a greater contributor on this forum, I have never posted pics.  If anyone can point me to tutorial, I can post a pic from this past Saturday.

I use Flickr (I downloaded the app) and upload my photos there. In that app, you can “share” your photos by using a link.  I copy and paste that link to this site (here in the writing area) and it posts the photo here. Perhaps someone else does it a different way, but this works for me and it’s not difficult to do.

I just either Control-V or drag the photo from PC.

Here is the shot from the bridge from Google Maps.  I can definitively see how the GA building will fit in nicely and I did not realize how visible the new dorms are.  The casino would look great from this angle.

See. This - THIS- this photo is why we need to stop downplaying our image as city! We have the density DOWN PACT.  Expansion and HEIGHT is next. (If what I said just sounded kinda showy and vain, it probably is (don't judge me)).

I absolutely love the view approaching North on I-95, especially with the large stretch of industry and then Tobacco Row (so glad Top Gear UK nailed that view years ago).  I just hope one day we can get even half of that feeling approaching from other directions (especially via S I-95/E I-64).

Additionally, a 40+ story tower would provide for an even sweeter view coming from the south on I-95 (also my favorite view of the city).  Hoping one is on the horizon!

The City Center lot would be centered nicely for that view.  The Eastern end of the skyline should beef up beautifully with GA, Children's, MCV outpatient tower, and the Navy Hill remnant.  A 20-30 story tower on the Coliseum block would also add a nice peak to the skyline without overwhelming.  Then we just need a few more 20 story residential towers through Monroe Ward to fill out our nice long and dense skyline.

Agreed! Man - I remember the old May Company building that used to sit on that block eons ago when my mother (may peace be upon her) would go shopping down there at Thalhimers and Miller and Rhodes. I think there was a Hot Shoppes at the 7th and Grace corner of the May Company building - there was a restaurant there for certain -- my mom would take me there for lunch allllllll the time when I was a kid. Then before that whole area started getting bought up and closed down, I used to take her there for lunch when I was grown. Cool memories.

Yeah, i'd LOVE to see a huge signature building there at City Center. And to allll the NIMBY nuts who would be freaking out about whether a tower of such size would "overwhelm" the Carpenter Center - I say this - go watch a few episodes of the Sopranos and see exactly what Tony, Chris or Paulie would say to such folks regarding their concerns. I promise it would be FAR more colorful than is likely allowed on this forum - and would involve only a couple of words! ;)

Does anyone recall the expected floor count on this building?  I see 15 floors currently.  With architectural element it may appear as tall as the BoA and City Hall rooflines.

Found it.  Looks like this is the top.

Here is the pic I took last Saturday with my phone.  One can clearly see GA Building elevator shaft rising to the left of City Hall and tower cranes of the children's Hospital to the right of City Hall.

Thanks for the pic! The skyline looks really good from this location and if more people used 895, maybe there would be more pictures like this. The density shown is incredible and the Dominion building fills in the former hole near the fed very well.

Holy moly!! That really stands out! The Children's Hospital will figure prominently on the skyline as well from this vantage point. GREAT picture!!

Yep - 15 floors - the elevator shaft does seem to match up with this. Expect a little more height than the shaft currently has for the crown of the building. WOW - size AND mass. This will be one beefy building.

If you think that is beefy wait until the children's hospital is finished.  I actually worry that it may be too much of a bulky monster in the skyline.
