A New "World Trade Center" in Rogers?

There are alot of planned World Trade Centers. In places like Jackson, Memphis, Jacksonville etc. Some of the ones that are actually built are relativly tall however.

This is strange; if you click on the Memphis World Trade Center link, it shows a Little Rock address.

Edit: I couldn't get the link to work, so you'll have to get to it on your own.

Yeah we seem to be having a number of glitches popping up. I've had problems with a few other minor things. That is wierd though. I just noticed that myself. Let's see if I can get a link to work. No, apparently not. Anyway here's what it says.

World Trade Center Memphis

c/o Arkansas Diagnostic Center

P.O. Box 55130

Little Rock, AR 72215-5130

It sounds like it was the university that got the whole process started. No one seems to be saying a whole lot yet but it does sound like if there is one it will be in Rogers and not in any of the other NWA cities. If this does go through it appears the U of A will be involved with this and be one of only a few universities to be directly involved with the World Trade Center Organization.

The rumor I head is that the immediate plan is to not build a building at all, but to lease three floors of the Pinnacle towers and ultimately construct their own building with a hotel etc included that will be in the 25-30 floor range. These aren't straight from the horses mouth, but they are from one of the developers in the Pinnacle tower building so at least the initial part of it should be accurate.

That sounds like something very feasible to me.

John George told me in an e-mail that Pinnacle was planning on a multi-story building just south of the Embassy Suites. He said the plans originally called for two, but since Metropolitan National Bank and another Bank built 2 Floor Buildings there, plans have shifted. I could really see this as a possibility. As well, there's plenty of land along Hospital Blvd that is unclaimed that could belong to the World Trade Center in a few years.

Wow, yous guys may possibly get a 25-30 story tower and all we got in Atlanta was a World Trade Center thrown in the lower lobby of the SunTrust building. What's odd is that in all my years of living here, I never even knew this place existed. I have to go to NWA just to find out about something in Atlanta. I viewed the website provided and I can see why NWA would be considered for a WTC location. 25 to 30 stories.....now that definitely warrants a "WOW!"

Lady Celeste, there's a TON of Atlanta transplants here (including my family and I). I heard one former ATL resident say her parents told her this area was like "Atlanta...20 years ago". I never knew the city's WTC was there either but the huge international presence was unmistakable there.

It's growing here, too.

It won't be long until this whole area looks like Atlanta Sprawl as well.

Living here I definitely would not want that to be so. I had to take a trip to the airport to pick my hsuband up just a few minutes ago and even on Saturday there was extreme congestion on the Downtown Connector. People are going every where, not just to one location....a sign of sprawl. I wish metro Atlanta had not become so sprawl-like. Sprawl makes public transit very expensive and almost prohibitive.

I know that many people love to see growth in their areas. Unfortunately for me I have not had that oppurtunity because as long as I have been able to recognize, Atlanta was a pretty large metro. I don't think in my lifetime it has been below 2 million. In 20 years it added some 3 million people and some would jump up for joy at that. I guess it would have been good had the city leaders 20 years ago actually thought that Atlanta was ever going to be so large. There was not thought of public transportation (although MARTA is the south's largest transit authority, 9th in North America), because of sprawl it does not serve 90% of the metro area.

Yet people continue to pour in. Its fun to see growth but just be careful of what you wish for. Also, elect leaders who think regionally. If NWA municipalities can start buying the right-a-ways for future public transportation lines that would be helpful. Also, forming a regional commission with some teeth is a great idea. Affordable housing (something that has kept Atlanta, Dallas and Houston attractive to the tens of thousands of new residents each year) will make your area viable. Focus on what makes NWA unique. Sprawl can be seen everywhere but you guys are located in some very pretty country. I come to smaller cities and read the enthusiasm because in most larger metros we take things for granted. CityPlace @ Buckhead, a complex with 8 towers 493' high each is approved by the board and noone in Atlanta even bats an eye.

Anyway, sorry about the rant. I just miss the Atlanta I knew; when it was a smaller place of only 2+ million. From time to time you will read me lamenting it's change in one forum or another.

Moderate Sprawl = inevitable

Unchecked Sprawl = bad

I do look forward to hearing more about you guys World Trade Center. Again congrats....perhaps one day I will have to pay the area a visit.

Thanks.

There's parts of the metro that are sprawling (Western Side) that remind me a lot of North Dallas. I doubt we'll reach 1 million in 50 years, but we are suppose to be the size of the Little Rock metro by then. As you said, affordable housing and transportation are key. It's looking like neither are in the minds of the governmnets of Northwest Arkansas. Most are only looking at the short end of the spectrum, by enticing overbuilding on congested roads. I often wish we had a regionwide government to help tackle these problems.

BTW, if you're ever up here, we'd be more than happy to give you info on attractions, restaurants, hotels, etc.

I do not know if all this is a big deal anyways. The one in Raleigh Durham was not noticeable even in RTP. Even one in Istanbul was not very large.

It's still a big economic advantage for the area, as well as the state.

I agree. World Trade Centers are for corporations what the United Nations is for governements. Membership in the World Trade Center Association has many privileges to corporations and would have a huge economic growth impact and also entice many more companies to relocate to the city with a WTC. I know that a WTC in NWA would be more effective than many other places because Wal-Mart and thousands of Vendors are primarily involved in international trade.

There was a story on Channel 7 tonight about the real possibility of a WTC coming to Rogers.

If built, it will be modeled after the Montana WTC. I cannot find any pics of it though...so I have no clue what it looks like.

I assumed that the layout would be similar to the Montana WTC, since both are going to be affiliated with a flaghsip university. I didn't think they would be similar in size.

I pulled this clipping from the Montana World Trade Center website:

It's Official Now!!!!!!

The University of Arkansas has entered into an agreement to become a member of the World Trade Center Association. It's suppose to have a a trade specialist program and teachs some of the education of students and faculty in international trade through the Sam M. Walton College of Business.

The nonprofit Arkansas World Trade Center will initially be located on the fourth floor of the Pinnacle Building Center at the Shoppes at Pinnacle Hills in southwest Rogers.

Since NWA is getting the Arkasnas WTC, do you think its possible that it could trigger XNA to become a national, or maybe even an international airport? I know our incomming and outgoing flights are no where near as high as Tulsa's, but I know the WTC will cause alot more International business traffic, let alone air traffic.

Highly, Highly unlikely.

XNA is just set to be a business airport, with tourist flights to Orlando, Las Vegas, etc coming in the future.

The only international flights that XNA needs in the future are Mexico City and Toronto. I say this because plenty of Wal-Mart relations are done in these cities.

Our next door neighbor (an IT manager at the W-M Glass Tech Center) says he expects international flights to China from XNA some day.

I agree, there is at least a decent need for flights from China, the biggest problem is that planes with that sort of range are too big for a direct Bejing XNA flight. More than likely, there will be more LA flights added.

I wonder if we might become a national airport though...we already service roughly the same number of cities as Little Rock. Of course, all of that is just a name...the R/N/I designation doesn't really mean all that much. One of the lowest volume airports I have ever been in that carried commercial flights (Melbourne, FL) is an international airport...they have flights to the Bahamas and I think two cities in the US.
