Okay, this thread is something I've been wanting to do for a while but keep forgetting about. My intention with this thread is to discuss present and future events in Shreveport-Bossier, including Webster and DeSoto Parishes, in the event there's something going on in those parishes as well.

Of course we have the Red River Revel coming up, followed by the 100th Annual State Fair of Louisiana.

What else is going on in the SBC? Well, allow me to provide Pollstar's current list of upcoming musical performances in Shreveport, Bossier City, and surrounding cities/towns.

On the comedy front, aside from the constant comedy entertainment at Funny Bone and other local "comedy night" performances, this coming Friday, September 22, Damon Wayans will be at Sam's Town. Other recent large comedy acts locally have included Howie Mandel, DL Hughley, and Rodney Carrington. Damon Wayans continues this local trend of top-notch comedy in Shreveport-Bossier.

Hey, SBC... where did you gather your info from? I gotta daughter who would love to see the Cheetah Girls, but i didn't see them listed on the Centurytel site.

PollStar's listings for Bossier City

Typically when information is shown on PollStar's website and not reflected on the venue's website, it's because the schedules have been tentatively approved but not 100% finalized through the venue. Once CenturyTel is 100% sure there are no scheduling conflicts, they'll release it onto their website.

Pollstar has added country star Blake Shelton to its Shreveport line-up. He'll be performing inside Hirsch Coliseum during the State Fair of Louisiana. Nice entertainment for the 100th State Fair, if I might say so myself.

I do remember in the mid-90s, though, when they were bringing pretty big rock acts in for the State Fair. I attended a couple of years just for the music, including one concert (Cowboy Mouth maybe?) where local boy Kenny Wayne Shepherd came out onstage to perform before his hometown crowd. That was a nice treat for sure! Then a drunk woman fell out of a tree onto a table... it was hilarious! :D

Another new addition... comedian Josh Blue, recent winner of Last Comic Standing on NBC! I LOVED this guy on the show and am excited to see him coming to Shreveport so soon after winning the show. But my only question here is... if he's playing at LSU-S, is the public invited or is it a student-only event??

No article link, because it's posted on Pollstar...

Updated today on Pollstar....

Coming to Bossier City on February 16, Blue Man Group!

I'm ready for this! I was planning on seeing them in Chicago this year but I didn't end up taking my trip up there afterall. I've always wanted them to come here, and now here they are. CenturyTel Center's lineup for the rest of 2006 and the beginning of 2007 is already showing some really big names in entertainment!

^ In addition to what I posted earlier this evening, it appears two more concerts have been added on Pollstar, both in Bossier City. "High School Musical - The Concert" at CenturyTel Center and Neal McCoy at Horseshoe.

It appears that the High School Musical concert is another of those Disney-based touring acts like The Doodlebops and The Cheetah Girls.

Neal McCoy is a very well-known country music singer with hit songs like Wink and Billy's Got His Beer Goggles On.

So far, major concerts or performances coming up in the next few months are:

In Shreveport...

10/26/06 - Josh Blue (comedian) - Louisiana State University

11/03/06 - Blake Shelton (country singer) - Hirsch Memorial Coliseum, Louisiana State Fair

11/17/06 - Hootie & The Blowfish (rock group) - Sam's Town Casino

11/24/06 - 11/25/06 - Ricky Lynn Gregg (country singer) - Sam's Town Casino

1/12/07 - Creedence Clearwater Revisited (classic rock) - Sam's Town Casino

In Bossier City...

10/27/06 - Gary Allan, Rascal Flatts, and Taylor Swift (country musicians) - CenturyTel Center

10/28/06 - Jeff Bates (country singer) - Roper's Night Life (nightclub)

11/13/06 - Trans-Siberian Orchestra (instrumental rock ensemble) - CenturyTel Center

11/15/06 - Def Leppard, Journey, and Stroll Vaughan (rock musicians) - CenturyTel Center

11/24/06 - Loretta Lynn (country singer) - Horseshoe Casino Riverdome

12/03/06 - The Cheetah Girls (children's musical act) - CenturyTel Center

12/09/06 - The DoodleBops (children's musical act) - CenturyTel Center

12/16/06 - "High School Musical - The Concert" (musical) - CenturyTel Center

12/16/06 - John Anderson (country singer) - Diamond Jacks Casino

2/01/07 & 2/02/07 - B.B. King (blues legend) - Horseshoe Casino

2/16/07 - Blue Man Group (theater act) - CenturyTel Center

3/3/07 - Justin Timberlake and Pink (pop artists) - CenturyTel Center

1/19/08 (??) - Neal McCoy (country singer) - Horseshoe Casino

Yet another major concert tour announcement, a la Pollstar...

George Strait and Ronnie Milsap at CenturyTel Center, 1-12-07.

http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?...ity&PSKey=Y

Wow. Those naysayers in Shreveport who kept funding study after study after study, ultimately leading to Bossier City beating them out in building a quality area, should be kicking themselves right now. Downtown Shreveport could have been home to a nice, 15,000+ seat arena and these concerts and would be happening there. But they had to drop the ball, then Bossier City picked up the ball and ran with it.

CenturyTel Center has proven itself a huge draw, being ranked as one of the top 100 concert venues IN THE WORLD in 2005 and one of the top 75 in the world this year, and has brought so many awesome concerts and large events to this area. The rest of '06 and the beginning of '07 are looking extremely bright for this arena!

December 2, 2000 was the grand opening date for this venue, and it was christened by music legend Elton John. It doesn't seem like it will have been open 6 years next month, but it has undoubtedly been a HUGE success in these 6 short years.

Here is the current lineup for CenturyTel Center for the end of this year and the beginning of next year. Keep in mind that just last week was the Rascal Flatts/Gary Allan concert which was also a success:

Mon 11/13/06 Trans-Siberian Orchestra

Wed 11/15/06 Def Leppard / Journey

Wed 11/15/06 Stoll Vaughan

Sun 12/03/06 The Cheetah Girls

Sat 12/09/06 The Doodlebops

Sat 12/16/06 "High School Musical - The Concert"

Fri 01/12/07 George Strait

Fri 01/12/07 Ronnie Milsap

Fri 02/16/07 Blue Man Group

Sat 03/03/07 Justin Timberlake

Sat 03/03/07 Pink

State Fair of Louisiana, 100th anniversary "Wild 100!"

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the State Fair of Louisiana. The fair is bigger and larger each year, and these days it goes on for 3 weeks but is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Another change also occurred this year, when State Fair General Manager Sam Giordano passed away, leaving Fair operations to his 30-something year old son, Chris.

Check out the State Fair of Louisiana's website here!

Bowling for Soup has been added to the entertainment lineup for Shreveport. Their concert date is set for Wednesday, 11-22-06 at the University Center Theater on the LSUS campus (I think that's where it is!?)

I believe their last concert in Shreveport was shortly after Katrina. They drove over here from Dallas (where they're based) just to put on a concert to raise money for Katrina. What a great thing for them to do, so I hope they sell this upcoming concert out.
