John Q Hammons in town for the Grand Opening tonight.

What is more interesting is the hint of another downtown hotel by

Mr. Hammons. I guess he see's the same potential as I do, the only difference is he has the know how and cash.

"The mayor said the hotel is already reaping big dividends for the city in terms of lodging and sales taxes from large conventions. She also revealed Hammons has expressed interest in another hotel downtown but declined to elaborate.

Local developer Scott McLain, owner of Heart of Huntsville/MarketSquare mall adjacent to the Embassy Suites property, has said he plans to include a hotel as part of the MarketSquare site's redevelopment."

A second Hilton Garden planned south Huntsville next to the Hampton Inn And Radisson

A Knoxville-based hotel group has received approval from Hilton Hotels to develop a 102-room Hilton Garden Inn on Boulevard South off South Memorial Parkway.

"What attracted us to Huntsville and this location in particular is the overall growth of Huntsville," said Alpesh Patel, president of Kana Hotel Group. "It looked like most of the new hotels were on the west side of Huntsville, and we saw there was a demand for a new, nice hotel in south Huntsville."

A second hotel is planned for the Village of Providence. The city planning board approved phases 5 and 6 of the development on Tuesday, paving the way for a 127 room hotel slated to open in late 2008. The developers aren't announcing the brand, but I'm leaning towards the Cambria Suites proposed last year. Huntsville Times

Finally a hotel in this area of Huntsville. This should really help the Hampton Cove golf course.

Not sure what the status is since this was announced almost a year ago.

Integral Hospitality Solutions recently signed an agreement to develop and manage a new Hampton Inn & Suites that will be located in the Hampton Cove area of the Huntsville, AL market. The hotel will have approximatley 94 rooms and suites and will feature a solarium and expanded meeting space. . The hotel should open in the first quarter of 2008.

A Huntsville Times article in Saturday's paper talked about the Chamber of Commerce reporting a 15% increase in hotel rooms that Huntsville has seen in 2 years.

"Since 2005, 720 hotel rooms have been completed in the Huntsville market, bringing the total of rooms available to business and leisure travelers from 4,900 to 5,620, said Charles Winters, vice president of marketing for the Huntsville-Madison County Convention & Visitors Bureau. He said another 670 rooms are under construction in the area now, including the Westin at Bridge Street Town Centre in Cummings Research Park."

"...Hampton Inn is reportedly looking to build a hotel in Hampton Cove near the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail, Winters said. He said developers have not shared specific plans about that hotel, which would be the first to locate near the residential development.

In addition, several developers have expressed an interest in building a hotel in Jones Valley, he said."

The hotels being proposed/built in the area right now:

In Madison:

Baymont Inn and Suites (under construction)

Best Western Inn and Suites (proposed)

La Quinta Inn and Suites (proposed)

2 more unnamed hotels (proposed)

^All of these are at I-565 Exit 8.

2 hotels at the DeBartolo development (proposed)

West Huntsville:

Cambria Suites (proposed)

Comfort Inn (almost complete)

Value Place (under construction)

Westin Huntsville (under construction)

Hotel at the Paramount Place development (proposed)

Hotel at the Providence development (proposed)- possibly the Cambria

Hotel at Redstone Technology Park (proposed)

South Huntsville/Hampton Cove:

Hilton Garden Inn (under construction)

Hampton Inn and Suites-Hampton Cove (proposed)

Possible hotel in Jones Valley (proposed)

Downtown:

Courtyard by Marriott (under construction)

Spring Hill Suites by Marriott (under construction)

....That makes it at least 19 hotels proposed or under construction. Granted, Huntsville was a hotel deprived city before.
