Ongoing Dispute over the 2121 Building

Recommended Posts

It seems Birmingham has the backing of the area's cities but not over something that it would be deemed positive. The ongoing dispute over as to who is to pay for the upgrades to the 2121 Building in downtown with is owned by Jefferson County and home to the Personnel Board. Mary Buckelew made the demand which were later passed by the county commission for a $4 million upgrade, but say the 21 county's municipalities including Birmingham that participate in the employment program through the county to foot the bill.

that building needs to come down, if for no other reason than that it chokes what would otherwise be a beautiful view of the city from the east. it's the biggest visual obstruction in downtown, imho.

a new building would probably be just as ugly, though, if PBJC were in control of the design.
