An item from the latest Planning Commission agenda (April 6th):

This project is presented as a major change to a PUD-C because the applicant is proposing

amendments to the PUD-C to permit phasing of the project. The current plan is to modify

and occupy the Columbia Supply Building; leaving the new construction to a later date. The

modifications to the building will include the addition of a stair and elevator tower to allow

vertical access to the second floor, restoration of window openings on the west side along

with new entries for access. These changes are scheduled for review by the D/DRC.

So it looks like Center Vista will be constructed in two phases, with the first phase consisting of rehabbing the Columbia Supply building, and constructing the retail/office portion at a later date. Can't say I don't blame the developers, given the current state of the economy.

^Exactly. I didn't ever think it was, but I obviously knew it was delayed.

Being that the Columbia Supply Building is being modified (and I hope the modifications are aesthetically appealing), this changes the site plan a little and modifications may need to be made to the new retail/office building and the developers will have to get DDRC approval for those changes as well.

The feature article in this month's issue of Greater Columbia Business Monthly is about the Vista. Even in the poor economy they're doing okay, but they're looking forward to the recession being history. The Vista is now second only to Harbison in revenue within the city of Columbia. It now beats Five Points. They're also looking forward to the two new hotels opening. The magazine isn't online, so I can't make a link to the article.

Wow, second to Harbison is a big step. Though I have to admit I'd rather that honor go to Five Points <_<

Anyway, thats a great bit of news. Were any numbers printed to illustrate that point?

Also, I'd like to know where people are shopping. I know there are stores there, but it just doesn't seem like there are enough (relatively) normal retail stores like Five Points has to draw in people. Maybe its the prices people pay for Art?
