Bush's Moral Police

While wars wage on, illegals take over the country, millions of American jobs head to the 3rd world, and pollution controls, alternative energy initiatives, and conservation measures are thrown out the window, Bush and the GOP congress will sign into law today a ban on Internet gambling for American citizens.

For the people who are umemployed & stealing Wifi internet service from some random coffee house, they can no longer make some money now. Id rather see online gambling regulated than it being illegal. Think how much the Government can make on that? Nah, morals must be important than generating revenue to Bush i guess.

yea. Frist snuck it into the Ports bill.

I don't think it will last long though, I hope not, as this is the first time I've lost money over a new government policy. :( What's next? Online pr0n? (That would be even worse)

It's stupid politics as well, because I bet millions of conservatives gamble online.

One can't help but think of Mr. Big-time Gambler, William Bennett during times like these!

He's the former Republican "Drug Czar" and Secretary of Education that was "outed" a few years ago as a pathetic gambler by a Las Vegas casino worker. For anyone not familiar with the story, the casino employee said Bennett came in regularly and sometimes lost as much as $350,000 in one night of non-stop gambling!!!!

Bennett is a classical example of Republican moral hypocracy. When the news came out, he retaliated that "he had just made $2 million on his last book".

One can't help but wonder if Bennett protested this new law! Imagine the old coot sitting online all night long, gambling until he's blue in the face~~~

Haha I saw a bumpersticker tonight that has PORN in a crossed-out circle and next to it was "Porn kills love." I can see that as a GOP slogan used to try to win the 2008 presidency.

My first thought was, well if porn kills love, maybe you're a little self-conscious, repressed, prudish, nagging, and cold that your whoever just found it better to look at porn than you.

 You are too funny. But seriously, I'm not surprised because this is the Bush administration of all people. I will be a the voting both on November 7th voting at some well-appointed jerkoffs that need to be sent home like Congressman Mike Rogers (R-Anniston). I am so sick and tired of this "moral police" bullcrap with all this repressed freaks. Some of this people needs to get a life and stop trying to orchestrate other people's lives.

To be fair, the liberals work as a moral police as well.

I don't know who is more concerned with other people's lives, the neocons, or the typical lib.

i think the difference is, the neo-cons want you to follow their morals and the liberals want moral anarchy, if there is such a thing... and by thta i don't mean chaos, i mean that they want people to believe that people should be able to do as they choose.

If I thought promoting the LBGT agenda in schools were wrong, I would be labeled a homophobe. If I thought most of what passes for art shouldn’t be displayed on the public dime, I would be labeled close-minded, uncultured. If I make a comment about how illegals bring previously dead diseases, and are a net-negative to the United States, I'm a racist and a xenophobe. If I thought that what today passes as mainstream black culture was unacceptable, I'd be branded a racist.

If I said Women aren't as good at math as Men, like Larry Summers said, I'd get punished harshly. He was, a simple comment statement that lost him his job at Harvard. If I didn't believe that women are preinclined to lead due to biology, I'm a misogynist.

If I worked for a company, I'd have to be PC in all of my conversations, if I made a remotely offensive comment to some group, I’d be canned. I’d probably be fired, and sued, within a day. ;)

Libs are only interested in free speech, and freedom, if it fits their agenda. There is no freedom of speech, or belief in their world. Look how furious the mention of Fox News makes them. Some liberal congressmen are talking about possibly putting some limits on Fox News.

You can't get any more involved in people's lives than making ideas, in essence, illegal. They are certainly more subtle than the neocons, but the end result is the same: Everyone lives in fear.

I think Fox News purposely misleads people by packing their shows with conservative commentators and conservative show hosts and caters to conservatives seeking to re-affirm their views through like-minded news sources.

I don't think Fox News should be censored by the government, but I think it's sad that they have credibility in the market. It says more about how naive some Americans are than to how bad Fox News is. Fox News might have an agenda, but their ultimate agenda is to attract viewers.

And Moonshield, I wouldn't have a problem with you thinking that promoting the GLBT agenda in schools was wrong, if it wasn't for conservatives turning EVERYTHING into a black and white issue. I admit liberals do this as well, but lately, it has been conservatives. If you're against having GLBT promoted in schools, you somehow assume that their agenda should be denounced and that we should be teaching our children to hate gays.

You know what I want? I want everyone to show everyone else a little respect by not telling gay people that they're going to burn in hell for eternity because of what they read in a book that they themselves do not follow.

And the very statement "women aren't as good at math as men" is a sexist statement. Sure, the average man might be better at math than the average woman, but last time I checked, how many Americans were using their full potential when it comes to mathematics other than trying to figure out the tax on their Quarter pounder with cheese meal at McDonalds? I'm pretty sure men and women are pretty equal on that front: STOOPID

And I don't really think it's always the liberals that are so bad.

Conservatives are often the ones that go and support the war in Iraq all gung ho, but get deeply offended if they show the blood of battle on TV. It was the damned scandle of the century when Janet Jackson showed her breast on television. PUHLEASE! It's a boob. 51% of us have them. We've all suckled them for sustenence. We're not going to have a moral breakdown as a society because of a nipple on national television. Instead, we'll probably just have an overly excited population of 14 year old boys. I'm sure if God doesn't hate us already for the carnage of war and killing each other for 1000s of years, he's not going to mind us exposing what he created on national television.

But this is where we agree Moonshield. I am a civil libertarian. I believe the government has every right to protect me from you when you're trying to screw me in a business sense, but what I do in my bedroom is none of your business.

The "LGBT agenda" is nothing more than attaining the same rights as the rest of society. It is, almost by definition, homophobic to oppose that.

"What passes as art" is a subjective statement, and either all subsidies should be abolished or all art should be eligible.

There is no evidence that immigrants promote disease.

Who is to say what kind of culture is acceptable or not?

Many women do just fine at math, and many men are terrible at it.

If you work for a company that wants to promote an image of fairness, they have every right to forbid offensive comments.

If someone acts like a paranoid bigot, they shouldn't be surprised when they are labelled as one. The "liberal agenda" promotes personal freedom, allowing you to do pretty much whatever you want, short of causing physical or mental harm to someone else. The "conservative agenda," on the other hand, seeks to put heavy restrictions on people's private lives.

Everyone has their own biases and subjective viewpoints. I love how the conservatives constantly carp and bemoan about how the "liberal media" is out to get them. But they love Fox News and rightwing radio. Well....those outlets are biased against liberals like myself and I don't have any issue with them promoting their beliefs. Who seems more tolerant now...? I am not even going to deeply comment on the rest of this post regarding GLBT issues etc . Only saying that the party in power currently has declared war on gay Americans like myself who are responsible and taxpaying. Our only difference being who we love which is our business. People that support these "moral" beliefs are bigots and are my enemy.

Yes, people with different opinions are bigots. Fox News' newscast is no more conservative than CNN, NBC's, is liberal. O'reilly, Hannity, are pundits, not newscasters.

As a card carrying ACLU member (see below) I have no issue with people having different viewpoints. And in this country offensive words are protected and allowed to be aired .Conversely, I have the right to point out hatred when I see it. I have conservative friends and enjoy debating with them and some of my family votes Republican. I only have a problem when people move from respectful discourse and mask their homophobia by cloaking in a twisted version of religion and "family values". I have no problem admitting that The New York Times and NPR which I avidly read and listen to lean left. And Fox News clearly leans right.

Thanks for the concurrent opinions :) I don't ever expect this entire country to have San Francisco beliefs. Polling for years has shown America to be a moderately right of center country. That being said there should be room for all viewpoints to be discussed in a reasonable and civilized manner. I have been just as guilty as the next guy of ranting and generalizing about conservatives at times. We all need to remind oursevles to rein our most excitable tendencies which at their worst don't compare to the outright hate preached by the ultraconservative right.
