Thanks for posting this early morning clip Drew

Great question! "Major company", 400 jobs!!!! Maybe they will locate in the CBD??? Looking forward to hearing who it will be?! The new leaders at the BR Area Chamber are very innovative and progressive. Something BR has lacked for sooo long!

Good to hear a Children's Museum is in the works too.

And Vitter saying the "loop" for BR is reality??? Wow! More good news!!!

The (another)expansion to the RiverCenter will attract even more conventions to the capital city!

This is great news! Finally! Not just for BR, but the entire state! It sucks they have had to turn work down/new researchers bec. there is not enough room. North Carolina would have taken care of this expansion by now. It's projects like this that help the diversity that makes Raleigh and Austin so progressive.

I'm surprised this wasn't posted already:

Baton Rouge and Memphis in battle over film production company "Our Stories Films."

http://memphis.bizjournals.com/memphis/sto.../09/daily8.html

More our Our Stories:

http://www.rljcompanies.com/newsOurStories.htm

Per their website, they focus on African-American family comedies (an increasingly profitable genre), and plan to produce six to eight films per year. The business end looks to involve Robert L. Johnson (owner of the NBA's Charlotte Bobcats and founder of BET) and The Weinstein Company (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Weinstein_Company).

This would be a huge get for BR. Hopefully the WBR and Celtic studio projects will tilt the balance toward BR. If not, the chamber better be showing these guys the red carpet. If Our Stories is succesful, other production co.'s will follow.

There's a nice article in the business report today which highlights some of the many New Orleans businesses that have relocated or opened branches in Baton Rouge. Most say that they are very happy here and that the business climate is better here than in New Orleans. They also cite the importance of the two areas working together for the advancement of the entire state, in particular the southeast portion of the state and by doing so the region could become the equivelant of Atlanta, Dallas, Houston. Dickie Brennan who is opening a new restaurant in the new Marriot Renaissance hotel on Bluebonnet says he doesn't think of Baton Rouge as being an "out of town" market. "Baton Rouge is part of New Orleans and New Orleans is part of Baton Rouge," Brennan said.

I sure hope i come, but I'm not so ure it will. Memphis previously beat us out for a BET series, because they had a "more affluent black community".

Memphis media is very pessimistic about our chances of landing this film HQ because of "Baton Rouge's liberal tax incentives for the film industry." -_-

Is anyone keeping track of Cane's phenomenal growth? Their website seems to be having difficulty right now, but I do know they're as far east as Augusta, GA, north in Columbus, Ohio, and NW in Lincoln, Nebraska. They seem to be growing like crazy!

The video game industry in BR, that sounds really cool!

Exxon Mobil plans a $350 million expansion in BR to produce low sulphur diesel.

ExxonMobil apparently plans to add a unit to produce lower-sulfur diesel at its Baton Rouge facility, according to Mayor-President Kip Holden's budget message presented to the Metro Council. The project investment could exceed $350 million. Company spokesman George Pietrogallo would only say, "We don't make public comment on projects until they finish the appropriation process." The project was listed among several construction projects, many in the chemical industry, in Holden's 2008-09 economic forecast that will add more than 14,000 jobs in the Capital Area over the next two years. Holden's message states: "Construction activities will continue to be the primary driver behind Baton Rouge's growth over the next two years. We have counted at least $5 billion in construction projects in the area, by far a record number for the region." --Anna Thibodeaux
