One of the 2 Harris Teeters flanking Ballantyne's Publix is closing. this is the store they inherited when the bought all the Lowes Food locations.  The main Harris Teeter in Ballantyne will stay open.   These stores were way too close and had too much competition.  http://www.charlotteobserver.com/news/business/biz-columns-blogs/whats-in-store/article194284294.html

That was the smallest Harris Teeter in that area as well

The Fresh Market halts all 2018 expansions of new stores. Not sure how this affects the new Strawberry Hill south Charlotte store which is a replacement.  https://www.bizjournals.com/triangle/news/2018/02/09/fresh-market-will-halt-expansion-in-2018-exec-says.html?ana=e_ae_set4&s=article_du&ed=2018-02-12&u=oAaDx%2B74FoP4qOJ%2By4AU6dhJPpc&t=1518469212&j=79960901

Looks like the last Bi-Lo stores in the Charlotte area are closing:

This is also a blow to some of the poorer neighborhoods in east Charlotte, as some areas will no longer have access to fresh groceries in walking distance.

^^^ Hopefully we backfill some of those locations esp. the Plaza and Eastway location for it will be long drive to another full sized grocery store.

Wasn't there supposed to be a grocery store coming to the Brightwalk development? Seems that side of town could use a supermarket.

EarthFare is coming to southwest Charlotte at S Tryon and Hwy 160 Steele Creek Rd across from the huge Rivergate shopping center according to Childress Klein.

Here's the PDF to see how much retail there is and this new store is as much for Fort Mill as it is the Steele Creek area.

This is what Dean and Deluca is saying about their recent woes.  It is all their Phillips Place landlords fault.  From twitter today.

Lawsuit filed yesterday by Dean & Deluca seeking damages stemming from its landlord changing the locks at the Phillips Place location due to overdue rent. Dean & Deluca claiming a loss of over $700K in perishable items.

Lawsuit also alleges that the "reputational damage" was so severe they were forced to permanently close their Stonecrest location. Dean & Deluca also claims the landlord breached terms of the lease when they terminated it without proper notice.

I am not an attorney but I learned this a long time ago:  If you Pay you stay, if you don't you won't!

Interesting article on Lidl. They give a decent overview of their stalled expansion and heavily critique the business model (tldr: Americans don’t understand what kind of store Lidl is).

Unfortunately they make two thinly sourced and contradictory predictions: 1) Lidl US is dead and 2) They will refocus their efforts in large markets and abandon small ones.

Publix is rolling out a new chain called GreenWise Market like a Sprouts around 25K sq ft.  A couple in Florida, 3-5 proposed in Atlanta and one coming to Mt Pleasant SC see article below.  This would be a good fit intown in Charlotte in a NoDa for example.    I would think Charlotte would be on their radar for one of these.

I think the new EarthFare by Concord Mills hurt it and remember Food Lion many years ago closed that location.   Maybe a Sprouts will sprout up.

I think some new Charlotteans may be shocked to see we have a Prosperity Church Road and thus a Prosperity Church. Prosperity churches, in many areas, now mean belief that financial well being is God's plan and donations will be recouped many times over in THIS life, because of faith. Affluence is a sign of faith and closeness to God.

Our Prosperity Presbyterian Church is from 1789 and as far from the prosperity Gospel of the late 20th century as can be imagined.

That never occurred to me. Good point.

Side note: I forgot this thread was here... I just needed to find out who to arm wrestle in order to get our first Wegmans.

I see there are other people waiting for the international hot food bar as well.
