I may have stumbled on another future Publix location:

Current rezoning up for the Highland Creek/Prosperity area near the future Prosperity Church relocation and 485 and across the street from Highland Creek Teeter.  Residential component is also included (275 units).

Petitioner is Halvorsen Development Corporation which is currently developing the Publix in Cornelius.

Another hint is that Publix is notorious for doing diagonal parking at their grocery stores.

Yeah, it looks like that Walmart Neighborhood Market in NoDa is a hoax:

However, it looks like Walmart is going to be pretty aggressive with expanding in the Charlotte region. They have plans for opening stores in Shelby, Gastonia, Rock Hill and Concord, along two planned stores in Charlotte. I'm wondering if they're trying to take over the lower-to-mid end niche, currently held by Food Lion and Bi-Lo.

Good news for my parents, they are opening a new Publix in Concord at George W Liles and Weddington Rd (where the Liles extension is finally taking place.)  No timeline is currently published

EDIT: also came across a neato map in the O of all the new Publix's in Charlotte (which oddly excludes the Publix the attached blog is actually about...)

Here's another big hint on that Prosperity Church Rd site: http://www.halvorsenrealestate.com/retail-opportunities/prosperity-village

Besides Arlington I should have clarified. Didn't realize it was 24 stories though.

There is a 25 floor Apartment/Hotel Tower at Metropolitan under consideration, Also 20 floors wouldn't be a whole lot taller than some of the buildings at Novant Health (or whatever its called, I was born at Presby, I'll call it Presby)

They have been talking about a Charlotte expansion for at least eight years,  I hope they actually pull the trigger this time.

The Chapel Hill store is pretty great -- it took the former Belk's anchor position in University Mall.

I wonder if Target's lease agreement would prohibit them from the HD space in Midtown? Its way more space than the need for a store but they could run their considerable mail order ops from the back (maybe?)

As in, anchoring a 20 floor apartment building on Elizabeth Avenue?

That would be pretty awesome. That corridor has so much potential.

^ that would be a major victory for the Gold line. Though I rather not have 20 stories outside of 277 yet.

While there is a decent amount of space there, there isn't nearly as much available space as there is in South End. I hope they make the most of it instead of building 4-5 floor apartment buildings that span an entire block like those that dominate South End.

Further news on Southern Season.  Seems they are gunning for two stores and trying to keep them in the inner burbs (Park Road, South Blvd).   They say they will not do a smaller store, so are exploring the idea of going vertical with a parking garage.

Edit: I really think this would be great for Elizabeth.  Either along Elizabeth Ave or the 7th Street Corridor
