Downtown Greensboro Developments

Little information about the future Eugene Street Parking deck, which with be on the interior of Roy Carroll's mixed-use development.

Bidding site says its 9 stories which means Carroll's project may be at least that tall to hide the deck.

The bid date for the deck is March 26th. It was posted March 13 th.

Carroll plans to build an office building on the corner of Eugene and Bellemeade with residential and an Aloft Hotel along Eugene. The parking deck will be hidden by Carroll's project. The deck access will be on Eugene St.

Looks like the configuration has changed since last summer. The latest configuration puts the Aloft Hotel with the office building north of the deck. 

City documents also call it a "future mixed-use hotel and office tower" This confirms Carroll is still planning something tall. Maybe not as tall as the first plan.

This means only the residential and MAYBE a convention center will be south of the deck

Roy Carroll to reveal his planned development around the city deck the city is building near the ballpark May 1st.  

City documents reveal a future mixed-use hotel/office tower will connect with the deck. However there is more to the project than just the hotel/office tower. There will likely be residential and maybe the convention center Carroll talked about. Retail will line Eugene Street. Boy I would love to see one of the small layout urban Target stores a part of it like the one in downtown Chapel Hill.

Downtown Greensboro bowling alley / lounge on hold..(permitting issues) but is still on the table. It will be located at the corner of Lewis St and South Elm Street near Boxcar Barcade.

Renderings of Carroll's project. No details yet but it looks like a 15 story office tower, 9 story Aloft Hotel, midrise residential and street level retail.

Some construction photo updates.

Steven Tanger Center. Won't be long before exterior walls start going up. Just think a year from now this facility will open with its first Broadway show. One thing to point out...the Tanger Center will probably be just as successful as DPAC in Durham. Season ticket pre-sales for the Tanger Center are setting national records for a new performing arts center.

I'm so thrilled they are going back to building it at 9 stories. Sometimes delays are a good thing.

 

Starting on the third floor for the Hampton Inn and Suites. Technically 4th floor. Its called a 6 story building but it actually has 7 floor. However it will be 8 stories tall with the top portion of the building.

 

Getting close to finishing the remaining apartment buildings at Carroll at Bellemeade.

Cityboi...have you been up to date on a development map for GSO? I'm intrigued to see the breadth and status of projects in the city. Or at least to get a sense of where all this is concentrating.

Pay wall but the article says a 5 story mixed use building with office and apartments will be going up on the edge of downtown near midtown. 34,200 square feet of office space and 32 apartments. Nice to see this kind of development which will bridge downtown and midtown development.  Pretty soon you wont be able to tell where downtown ends and midtown begins. Its also an indication that office development is picking up in the downtown area.

If this is done well, it would make a nice gateway entering downtown. This site also fronts onto the future A&Y greenway, near where it will come into the Downtown Greenway. Hopefully the building will interact with the trail - could be a neat little spot.

Action Greensboro is awarded a $75,000 grant that will used for a major art installation along the 4 mile downtown Greenway loop that encircles downtown. The greenway is expected to be complete in 2020. One thing I will say. Downtown Greensboro has been getting some significant public art over the past several years and large scale. The illuminated net sculpture in LeBauer Park is one example. It was designed by an international known artist with similar net like sculptures around the world in major cities. Greensboro is the only city in the south with that kind of sculpture

"The $36 million greenway project, financed with public and private funds, is expected to be completed in 2020.

Looking at the smaller body and overal shape it seemed like a lotus exige (base?), i thought it was a ferrari too due to the red cover lol, but is here is another slightly newer mclaren i caught at autobell on newgarden rd. in the lowes food parking lot. And this cool V8 vantage on battleground by wendys within 5 minutes(i love car spotting, i am a member of Exoticspotters.

And one of my favorite spots, the infamous Gold Aventador. On battleground in the future trader joes lot.

I have pics of over 200 interesting cars that i have seen in Greensboro.

Greensboro 2021 render i did.

Then and now. The first photo shows Lindsay Street and the old Burlington Industries headquarters. Today center field at First National Bank Field is located there.  After Burlington Industries moved into a new building, the building became the home of the Guilford County Department of Social Services.  The building was demolished and that section of Lindsay Street was closed to make way for the ballpark.

About 12 smart kiosks are being installed downtown that will provide information about restaurants, retail, public transportation,events and other attractions downtown. They will also have free wifi hotspots. They will look like large smartphones. To my knowledge Greensboro is the first city in North Carolina to install these downtown. Raleigh has plans for them too.
