Market Square plans

Plans for Market Square to be revealed today inbvolve keeping the street grid but getting rid of the marble walls and a lot of the trees. The four quadrants of the square would have different uses, including a play area for kids.

I think this sounds like a pretty good plan. I am glad they decided not to close the streets. Rerouting traffic would have been a nightmare, not worth it in my opinion.

This sounds really great. I really like the idea for a children's area. It's very live-able and new urbanist.

Just got back from the presentation of the (draft) msquare report. Looks pretty good. I really don't think all the "kids stuff" is all that relevent. I'll post again tommorow after I've had time to digest it.

My reaction earlier this year when O'Connor mentioned doing something to the square, I was puzzeled. The square is fine in and of itself... the problem is management as mentioned. Keep it clean, up the activities and if people are always there, then it will not have the desolate ("it's not safe") feel to it.

It's a square and should be a center of activity.
