Should Hartford dump "the rising star" slogan?

If rising star is copying PR, then heartbeat is copying Chevrolet. I say since there is so much animosity between Hartford and Providence here, although I don't know why, Hartford should copy Providence and use Renaissance City thus forcing Providence to find a new jingo. We can then go to their forum and mock them, saying it's a lie and it does not reflect Providence as what it is - whatever that is. Of course the TRUE Renaissance City of Florence Italy make take exception to anyone using the term Renaissance City and sue us both.

I personally don't like the whole "rising star" slogan. I don't like the connotations it has and I don't think its very original.

Something related to "heart" or "heartbeat" is good. Its catchy and it can relate to Hartford's central location (Boston, New York, shoreline, casinos, skiing, etc.) in the region...

"The Heart of New England" "The Heart of It All" "In The Middle Of It All"... something like that.

last i checked, the people who said the "rising star" slogan was a lie were not from providence, and one of them was from hartford (mikel). i, in fact, think the rising star slogan is just fine, although i think heartbeat sounds better (but probably doesn't do much to attract visitors outside of CT).

[i love the one-way thinking you guys have. Anything said about Hartford is "legitimate opinions" but anything said about Providence is not. If we are blasted, we blast back, win, lose, or draw. I don't see anything wrong with defending my city against unwarranted critisism. If that's a tantrum, then so be it. Huff....puff....

hmmm...my post wasn't saying who said it first, or who agree or disagree with it. My points are 1) slogan is a marketing tool which always involve some sort of embellishment. With slogan, you accentuate the positive, not be as truthful as possible. Let me put it this way, if Providence is the Renaissance City, then Boston is the Center of the Universe; and 2) this whole Providence is better than Hartford thing is stupid. I mean if you and I both fall into a septic tank, but you are in it a little deeper than me, and I climb out first, I wouldn't exactly call you a stinker.

You guys???....Just because runawayjim comes on this forum and has to compare everything to Pvd as if it were the last bastion on earth doesn't mean that every person on UP is trying to play some sort of game with the Hartford forum. I've come on here legitimately and asked for info and have received nothing but negative connotations. If runawayjim has nothing but negative things to say @ Hartford and pumps up Pvd and New Haven, it's his opinion.Frankly, I don't know why he feels compelled to post on this forum since he stated he doesn't care about the city. If you can ignore mikel's sometimes perceptive other times outlandish comments, then ignore him. There are other people here, myself included who don't care about making some sort of argument about which place is better. I like Htfd and I only come on here from time to time to check out what's going on. Leave the bulls**t aside. Thanks.

check out the O.C. tomorrow night. Summer is attending Brown and Seth will be attending RISD in the spring semester!

and name another city in the U.S. that is more like Florence, Italy than Providence. arts, style, architecture, and food are the first 4 points that come to mind. Not to mention Providence isn't some city in the south that grows its economy with the boost of warmer weather and cheaper cost of living. It was reborn in this stunted northeast economy.

To be even compared with Florence, you would need actual human beings walking around outside on a weekend day, something nearly impossible to find in Providence. Among a million other reasons why Providence in no way shape or form should be compared with Florence.

New Haven is more like Florence actually than Providence, and that's not saying much.

There is no city in the US that even comes close to comparing with Florence Italy. The entire Rennaissance was born in Florence and gave birth to the greatest artists, architects and thinkers the world has ever seen. It was the arts and business center of the universe for centuries and is still a destination for world travelers hundreds of years later. If any US city could even TRY to be compared, it would be NYC.

out of the 3, hartford is my least favorite. does that mean i don't care about it, does that mean i wouldn't want it to succeed? no, not one bit. i admit to playing up providence and new haven, but it's no more than the hartford people play up hartford. if you love a city that much, you tend to show bias. my bias shows, but so does everyone else's.

I don't go to the Providence forum because Providence means nothing to me, so I don't know if Hartford boosters here go over there and constantly say to Providence folks that Hartford is better, regardless if it is true or not. If they do, they are just as annoying as you are. Whenever someone post here about improvement in Hartford if all you can say is yeah but Providence/New Haven are better, it gets tiresome after awhile. I don't know how many times someone posted Hartford has nice restaurants, and you said yeah but Providence/New Haven have better, or when someone posted Hartford has nice art scene, and you said yeah but Providence/New Haven have better, or when someone posted Hartford is coming back, and you said yeah but Providence/New Haven had already came back. Are all these one ups necessary? I suppose if I say Hartford has nice and cheap hookers, you would say yeah but Providence/New Haven's hookers are nicer and cheaper.
