NC Soul Food

I'm going to have to check out Grandma's. I rarely eat out for soul food because its food I can & do make at home. Though I really have a hard time cutting down on the bad parts of these dishes - the fat , grease & salt. I don't eat pork and used smoked turkey as my seasoning meat. For example, its kind of hard to take out the sugar & calories of candied yams and get that real down home taste.

Anyway, my mom dreams of moving back south and open a bed & breakfast serving up some of that good cooking her & her sisters have mastered. If that ever comes to past, cinco, I'll be sure to let the board know.

So they have a Junior's Chicken & Waffles - what about a Roscoe's?

I agree. I think Roscoe's is like Sylvia's in Harlem. Places that may have been great when they first opened but are coasting on their past reputation. Nobody from "aroundtheway" who really wants good soul food goes to Sylvia's anymore - its more for tourists and loyal customers who refuse to let go & change their ways.
