What do you think is the best way to stop sprawl?

Recommended Posts

Allan has a good point. Streamlining the bureaucracy would be very helpful in sprroving projects like that. It seems like buliding a house or reusing land would be the fastest things to be approved. Particularly in Detriot. Detroit tends to be associated with people leaving... so why make it difficult to approve projects that would bring people back?

Maybe Detroit needs a Bureau of Bureaucracy :)

The sad fact of the matter is that most people don't choose to live in the type of environment they do - they are fed what they "want" via marketing, government subsidy, and what developers want.

The thing is to create gov't policy that encourages better growth via the developer and transportation, not to focus on taxes or whatever.

If taxes are the topic - then start giving gov't subsidy and tax breaks to encourage transit services and more urban housing and business - less to the Wal-Mart's out there.

This is the best idea I know of.
