It figures when I move away, Panera would come...love love love this place.

MBJ has an article detailing the comings and goings of downtown Memphis restaurants. Good to see another concept in the old Swig space. Looks like this period is just a tough one given the economy, a maturing downtown restaurant market, and uncertainty about downtown commercial real estate.

It's getting tough downtown for restaurants for a myriad of reasons. Stella, Jillians, Lolo's Table, EP's Delta Kitchen and others. Now Cafe 61 and Blues City Pastry have announced their closures. Looks like the Silly Goose will replace Swig and a sports bar will replace Jillian's. The recession combined with a tough downtown market with not enough employees is now a rough one for restaurants.
