Just curious...what's up w the number "12"?? This new hotel is 12-stories...lately everything has been 12-stories....like the new Courthouse; the new II City Plaza...the new state buildings La Salle & Galvez are 12....also Shaw Plaza off Essen and the new Renaissance hotel is also 12...not 11; not 13 or 14....

When Plan BR was being implemented Andres Duany suggested no buildings taller than 12...since then all of the taller proposals have failed thus far.

Your right Richy, there needs to be 20, 25, 30+............ :ermm:

Ha...yeah that was me that wrote to the Advocate to ask a few years back...there is no 450'ft height restriction in BR. The Capitol Park grounds acts as a large enough buffer zone that helps.

At one time RiverPlace condominium project was supposed to be 36-stories rivaling the height of the Capitol...not sure if it would have supassed the Capitol in height due the difference in elevations.

The casino actually looks quite impressive in person, I guess because its bigger than I invisioned.

I thought the opposite. It seemed rather small, especially when compared to other pinnacle properties. I still think it looks rather tacky, like a glorified Bass Pro, then again, that style appeals to many Baton Rougeans. Even then, its a poor manifestation of that style.

What many have been thinking all along...can BR really support 3 casino boats??

The view from downriver

...With Pinnacle Entertainment here, downtown riverboats face an uncertain future

Baton Rouge isn't big enough for three casino boats, according to industry watchers anticipating the Aug. 29 opening of L'Auberge Casino & Hotel. They predict the demise of one of Baton Rouge's two downtown boats, unless Pinnacle Entertainment's newest development on River Road at Gardere Lane can attract gamblers here like the city's higher ground did in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

L'Auberge will be for the big money gamblers with their high table games and the others will serve the cheaper gamblers.

I really didn't think there was a market for that in south Louisiana except maybe New Orleans. The current casinos seem to attract the working poor and welfare class to a far greater proportion than any casino I've seen.

No way both boats survive this.
