Birkdale has really grown on me over time. It's pretty well connected into the adjacent neighborhoods so it doesn't feel like a shopping center island. They've done a really nice job making the whole thing feel very stroll-district.

The thing holding it back isn't really the development itself, it's the absolute grossness of Sam Furr Road. There are plans to super-street it, but the plans are notably devoid of, you know, pedestrian crossings and the like. The greenway only gets a passing note as "to be considered."  NCDOT: N.C. 73 Improvements (Lincoln & Mecklenburg) - Project Maps (Birkdale is adjacent to the last map on the list)

I'll never forget the arguments the ex mayor of Huntersville, who had family land all around the then non-existent exit, had: that Sam Furr would NEVER be developed like Independence Blvd.

There are rumors from NCDOT that they are looking into raising 73 slightly in order to build a pedestrian tunnel under the road to connect Birkdale.

this is not really an urban project but a good use of land I think.  an agri-hood where there is a working farm along with new homes and businesses.  This is proposed in Davidson.

""Summit Farms LLC is pursuing a 58-acre mixed-use development that would combine a working farm, commercial space and low-density housing in Davidson.

A pre-development consultation for that project is on the agenda tonight for Davidson’s Board of Commissioners. Plans will be reviewed, with direction provided as to whether Summit Farms should move forward with a conditional master plan application.

19300 Shearer Road Realty — an entity affiliated with Summit Farms — has assembled five adjacent parcels at the intersection of East Rocky River and Shearer roads for roughly $4.1 million.

Details of that project are laid out in an agenda memo by Trey Akers, senior planner for Davidson.

It shows that Summit Farms seeks to develop a neighborhood that is centered around an 18.43-acre farm.

Plans call for another 6.54 acres to be used for commercial uses. Part of the site could become the new headquarters for Davidson-based Summit Coffee, with a roastery and retail building. A brewery, farm-to-table restaurant and a boutique inn are also listed as possible uses.

Residential areas will encompass 32.69 acres, with greenways, natural surface paths, open space and public spaces incorporated.""

while this would be the first in this region (not sure why it took so long to come this area) Houston metro has a big one called Harvest Green that I saw a couple years back.  And it is quite successful.   Plus this community has edible landscaping that you can pick all over the neighborhood!

Project proposed in downtown Cornelius next to the close-to-opening Cain arts center. It appears they propose to save the facade of several existing buildings while removing what's behind the facade (including olde town public house).

I say it over and over. Charlotte never needs to look any further than LKN for how to build better. From sidewalks, to their neighborhoods to their walkable & pedestrian friendly developments. Love this project.
