Most of these pics are of specifically where I live in Commonwealth-Morningside, with a few showing the Plaza-Midwood frontage of Central Avenue. On to the pictures...

thank you for posting. this is by far my favorite neighborhood in charlotte.... it is filled with independent, locally owned shops, bars & eateries. one vision i've always had for the hood is to do away with that vast parking lot between family dollar and cvs... i would love to see a continuation of storefront down central ave @ this location. maybe with more public parking in the back - near elizabeth billiards. there are alot of passionate people in this hood who revere it's character... i think we will continue to see locally owned businesses dominating the area for a long time.

also, what is going on with the old plaza-midwood school?

Great pictures, I agree. While old and worn, I never regarded Morningside Apts as a particular eyesore or problem area. I have friends who have lived there over the years. I know they are slated for demolition to make way for the latest and greatest "mixed use" village. I hope there is a mix of prices or rentals so some of the current residents can move back. I also agree that the mostly empty expansive parking lot past CVS and across from the GLBT Community Center is a waste of great space. What Charlotte needs most of all is more retail like what exists from Thomas&Pecan along Central. What we have now is great but much too small in scope. Moving downward to meet up with the redevelopment along Hawthorne would make sense.
