New York area Subway, Metro North and NJ Transit

Boston T and MTBA to Providence

Chicago L and Metra

Los Angeles Red Line

San Francisco BART and MUNI

Portland MAX

San Diego Trolley and Coaster

Toronto Metro

Montreal Metro

Paris Metro

Prague Metro

Oslo Metro

Rio de Janeiro Metro

Sao Paulo Metro

Top systems that I want to add to the list:

London, the first

Moscow, the biggest in terms of ridership,

Madrid, which looks pretty extensive too

If you are including international locations, then Mumbai has the most busy and intricate train system out of any city. The trains are enormous compared to any commuter train in the US.

The Underground in London is very well designed with access to all major points of interest.

The Monorail at Disney World is pretty neat too!

Boston, NYC, Washington, Philadelphia

Washington's was the cleanest, nicest and brightest. NYC's of course is the best functionally, and some of the trains are really clean and nice. Boston's is great functionally once you figure out when inbound changes to outbound..... Philly's was my least favorite.

I rode the "L" and Metra in Chicago and enjoyed them quite a bit. The Metra cars were very interesting in that they were double decker. I was quite impressed with them.

Cool. I rode on Metra this past Sunday when I was in Chicago. I loved the double decker feature.
