Andersons Restaurant to close Nov 18

Looks as if another long term Charlotte restaurant, Andersons, will close next week. It joins the Coffee Cup, Athens, and others in Charlotte's long tradition of bulldozing down it's traditions. This restaurant has been operating out of the same brick building near Presbyterian hospital since just after the end of WWII.

It should be pointed out that it was the founders son's decision to close the place. He was not pushed out by a developer. Still, it's just the latest historic Charlotte staple to be torn down. This town wipes out more of it's past then any city I have ever heard of. It's almost like a sport and the process seems to be rapidly accelerating. We should start a dead pool thread and make guesses on the next place to go down.

Anderson's saw its better days about 20 years ago but indeed it was one of the few community gathering places in Charlotte where you would see familiar people on a regular basis. As a native Charlottean, the place has become like a foreign country to me and the question remains of how much "progress" trumps character.

According the the article in the Big O, the building will remain and become home to Anderson's catering business. Anderson says no one has offered to buy his building and he is not looking to sell. So, you can still get the great Anderson's food. You just have to have it delivered.
