Here's a nice harbinger of spring in the dead of winter. The city forester just spray painted the locations where a bunch of new trees are going to be planted this spring on my street, including two in front of my house.

Statement as of 3:27 AM EST on February 11, 2007

... Confidence is increasing for a winter storm to affect southern

New England...

Low pressure is expected to develop off the Carolinas Tuesday...

then intensify as it tracks northeast. The current forecast brings

the winter storm southeast of Nantucket late Wednesday.

Based upon this track... there is the potential for a significant

accumulating snowfall throughout most of southern New England

beginning late Tuesday night and lasting into early Thursday.

Strong north to northeast winds are also possible... perhaps gusting

as high as 50 mph during the height of the storm late Wednesday and

Wednesday night. These strong winds would be more likely to occur

near the coast.

The combination of strong winds and rapidly building seas could also

lead to minor coastal flooding Wednesday... despite low astronomical

tides.

This winter has certainly featured a lack of snowfall... and as a

result... many people have not become accustomed to driving in harsh

winter weather conditions. Take time now to make sure your vehicle

is prepared.

People in southern New England should be aware of the potential for

heavy snow... strong winds and minor coastal flooding during the

middle of this week. Keep in mind the forecast track may still

change over the next day or two... which could result in more or less

of an impact on the region.

Stay tuned to NOAA all hazards weather radio or your local media for

updated information... or visit the National Weather Service Taunton

website at weather.Gov/Boston.

NWS has just changed the forecast for wednesday to snow/sleet/rain now... this is gonna blow over and be nothing but crap and will totally suck. we'll see what happens when wednesday comes. i'm not holding my breath.

on the subject of getting snowed in... 2 winters ago when we had all that snow, my fiancee and i (she was jsut my girlfriend back then) were snowed in and she was stuck here, couldn't get back to boston. i got the day off from work because the college closed. it was fun. we just sat around and watched movies. at one point, we went out to the eagle square shaws (because the north providence one was closed) and got some food and movies at blockbuster. it was lots of fun. her car barely made it up river ave by valley st.
