New development in downtown Black Mountain

There's a proposal for a new development in downtown Black Mountain, across the street from Tyson's Furniture. The C-T and the Asheville Daily Planet have the story.

The development is to include a lot of new facilities for the town (police, fire, and administration), in addition to 18,000 square feet of retail and 60 condos. The buildings will be three stories, and follow Black Mountain's 40-foot height restriction, except for a clock tower which will be taller. The proposal calls for TIF financing. This is one of the most reasonable, least controversial proposals for a TIF that I've seen so far in NC. The developer is constructing new facilities for the town at no cost to the taxpayers except the TIF revenue.
