Rumored 40-story Tower for OKC

There are a couple rumors going around that both support the idea that a 40-story hotel/residential tower is in the works for downtown OKC.

Over at OKCtalk, one poster saw an actual rendering for the tower at an architecture forum for OSU students. The project was top secret, but the rendering appeared to be in DT OKC. Another person reported that a construction company had won a bid to do the plumbing for a new 40 story hotel/residential tower in OKC. I'm not getting my hopes up until I hear an official announcement, but the rumors seem to support each other.

OOOOOOO that would be neat! I like downtown OKC's skyline, and another 40 story building would really be great! I was born and raised in rural Oklahoma (since moved to Florida). But growing up there and having to drive to OKC to do shopping, the skyline has never really changed in I guess about more than 20 years or so. I think the Oklahoma Tower was the last major building added to the skyline.

So if it's true, great news Oklahoma! (go Sooners!!!)

Possibly. The Chase Tower is 36 Floors at around 500 feet tall. The tower was built in the early 70's, when skyscrapers were built higher per floor than today. I'm not so sure how tall a 40 Floor high-rise would be since the height per floor has decreased. It also depends if it's going to be a condo tower or office or mix.

Remind me what all downtown Tulsa is going again...

In OKC we're up to 2,500 units and almost $3 bil in investment in the downtown area, and of course, counting. It's gotta go up at some point. And your suggestion that any residential high-rise would be so cost-prohibitive that units would have to go in the million-dollar range is so wrong that even I know it from experience. And...people did shell out $3/4 mil for their townhomes in Maywood Park.

The funny thing is that in DT Tulsa, converting an entire vacant high-rise actually WOULD sap the market.
