Wow! Nice pics. I talked to them about the RISE center, as I have a business doing web hosting/server colocation and am looking to move it. The first building is NSU / EDU only, with the second building planned to have leasable business space. There are plans to have 8 buildings, I believe.

There is much press made over the supernode that exists on campus, but it is little more than a hut for the telcove fiber ring that already stops off at lots of businesses. Not a huge difference over the Cox Fibernet MAN that is strung all over Hampton Roads.

Building is going up fast though.

is that the site where they use to have that shady convenient store? Fairly close to Harbor Park?

This is directly across from the 7-11 @ Brambleton and Park Ave.

Right before you go under the underpass coming from the Campostella Bridge and it will be on the left hand side

Has anyone notice that the building looks nothing like its original concept other than being square. The original building had semi curtain wall glass around the exterior on each floor. Now the building has tiny little windows. I'm a bit disappointed. Here is a link to what it was originally supposed to look like.

Those were concept drawings. The drawings that went to permit look exactly like whats built. I must say that I am more fond of the way it is as compared to the curtain glass look.

The building is supposed to be a technology and applied research hub. I just think the curtain wall glass lends itself to that type of image. The use of more brick and smaller windows makes it look like another city admin building. For all the hype that NSU put out about the Rise center, its not really standing out on its campus.

Why doesn't the State of Virignia invest more into the institutions that represent how well we educate our youth?

NSU was opened because African-Americans could not go to schools like ODU. Now that we are beyond that they need to merge the schools together or give each one the money they need to operate.

The brand new Student Center will be a 80,800 square foot, three story brick and aluminum structure built behind the existing Godwin Student Center, which will be connected to the new Center via a third floor bridge. The Center will be constructed in two phases: the first phase is the building of the new structure, while the second phase is the renovation of the existing Student Union.

The new Center will include a multipurpose sports arena, which will seat 2,000 persons; meeting rooms for student use; a cafeteria; a wellness center; student lounges; administrative offices for the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs; a boardroom for University administrative use; and a 486-seat auditorium. The new Student Center is slated to open in July, 2008.

I think the point of the list was to show that Norfolk State does not get the most money in the state. Even with a per capita break down I seriously doubt you will find numbers to support that claim.

Besides, for the most part, all state universities are underfunded by the state... they fight like wolves for the funding they get.
