I remember hearing a lot about Grand Rapids going Wireless, they had test areas, I even went to a "wire cutting" ceremony and interviewed the mayor (I can't find the footage anymore). But i haven't heard anything about if things are still moving forward with this or if it got abandoned. does anyone know what is going on? I want my Citywide Wireless!

I was looking online for more information about this. The GR city wifi page has updated FAQ's and links to articles from this summer but they all say that the expected launch date is still before the end of this year. Why is it that there is so much hurrah and attention put to this initiative but then it always just fades away into nothing?

In fact, when Kent County Information Technology Director Craig Paull called me this morning for an update on the wireless project, I realized that I have been remiss in keeping you up to date.

Most recently, Sprint Nextel and Clearwire announced a tentative agreement to work together to speed up and expand the deployment of a nationwide mobile WiMAX network, and to collaborate on products and services, branding, marketing, and distribution. The two companies said that they expect the arrangement to foster
