MLB announces annual Civil Rights game

MLB

This is a great news for the town. Plenty of exposure on national stage and good for the economy especially downtown since this will be an yearly event.

I read about this today as well, couldn't be better for Downtown and the city as a whole!

I hope it's a permanently-Memphis fixture in the baseball landscape.

Memphis gets another acknowledgment pertaining to Civil Rights?!!! This is good. Memphis is becoming (if not already is) an iconic city. I think the NBA and TNT has a special presentation in tribute for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr with a Grizzlies game.

Real talk, its amazing how such a HORRIBLE (this word can't explain the situation) incident could bring back such positive feedback for a city. Memphis is about preservation not about the clich

Clobber, I agree this should be a permanent fixture here. Keep in mind the National Pastime Museum is not far off in 2007 this would certainly add to the draw of the game and give the tourism a big boost. This could be a major economic boost.

I'm glad to hear the museum is still in the works. It's been theorized for quite a while now, I was a little worried.

When AZP was first announced, they also announced that they were constructing a minor league baseball hall of fame. That idea eventually became the National Pasttime Museum. It will be affiliated with Cooperstown and the Negro Leagues Hall of Fame. At first, it was proposed to provide the most comprehensive information about minor league history, and include high-tech exhibits (internet databases, etc). I don't know if the new name indicates a different focus. Also, originally, it was going to be a Smithsonian Affiliate. The Smithsonian Affiliate website doesn't have it on its page. Don't know if it's because it hasn't been constructed yet or what.

Anyways, that's what I remember about it.

Great! Could a continuous good showing at this game along with the high attendance at redbirds games and the fact that AZP can be expanded to major league standards help Memphis land the Florida Marlins or the Tampa Bay Devil Rays? What do you think?
