The State of Downtown Retail

Downtown late night Taco window open next to 21 east.

The owner of this is a good friend of mine. His name is Will Smith believe or not and he's an awesome guy. He's running it with his girlfriend and he really cares a lot about putting out a quality product. The back story is really cool too. He used to work for a Greenville based small business that got bought by a much larger company and it caused him to get laid off. Instead of whining and going on unemployment he decided to work with the guy that started 21 east, also a great guy and somebody that mentored me, and start his own business. I'm really trying hard to help him promote online so if you like supporting small businesses and wanna help someone just starting up go to Ventana Magica Tacos to give them a like. https://www.facebook.com/MagicWindowTacos

I just noticed yesterday a roof top urban farm on top of the old nuvox building on Washington St.  They have a banner at the roof and you can see the pedestals that have the plants growing out of them.  Very cool to see.  You can see it if you stand outside Sully's Steamers and look up.

Either they are arranged differently or it has grown A LOT in comparison to last year's handful or so that you could see...

Wouldn't a better downtown website help retail?

Here's Greenville's.  It doesn't even list the draws that will help new high-end stores come downtown.  Anthropologie is one of this era's most in-demand retailers and so it should be trumpeted, to draw more stores and people downtown, but it's not even listed:

Here's a good one that is much more useful:

Wedding 101 or whatever it was called has vacated their space in the West End

.

Renovations on the space have commenced. Anyone know who the new tenant will be?

Splash on Main will be opening this Friday, May 1.   I like the name, and it will help address the shortfall in Boutiques downtown -

A SIGN THAT THE APOCALYPSE IS UPON US:

Wish Boutique next to the Verizon Store has "Store Closing" signs in the windows. No doubt this will add to the dearth of pink and green boutiques in DT...

Seriously though, I've always heard that boutiques are critical to the retail success of a downtown (and apparently shoe stores). Not too worried though, I'm sure it will be replaced by a similar retailer.

^^ that space has probably gotten much more expensive to rent w the plaza renovation complete and new national retailers nearby. They could probably open up elsewhere downtown and make things work. However, there's also more competition w J Britt, TAZ, and the Cone & Coleman (or whatever it's called) all opening within the past year and all within a block, selling very expensive women's clothing and accessories.

Apparently the case doesn't go to trial until mid-July at the earliest and exterior renovations are occurring no matter what happens. This place is definitely in need of the update and I think the renderings look great.
