Great. That's all we need downtown, more drunks walking the streets.

Wow, that's quite a generalization.

Anyway, I agree with you, Greenville. East North and that general area already has a nice collection of nightlife spots.

While I'm not entirely up on the nightlife offerings, I'm trying to think of the places in the area that are entertainment and nightlife venues and not just restaurants in the area. Some that are marketed more as bars and such that I can think of north of Coffee Street and south of Beattie/College:

-Cafe and Then Some [College]

-Dixie's Tavern [North]

-Brown Street Club [brown]

-Corner Pocket [Coffee]

-Addy's Dutch Cafe [Coffee]

-Two Twenty One North [Main]

-Blu Martini [Main]

-Sharkey's Pub [Main]

-Blue Ridge Brewing [Main]

The Teal clad building at N. Main and E. North will soon get a new façade. It will go before DRB next month.  They informally reviewed it today.  Top two floors will have windows for a change.

Not to be mean, but from looking at the application, I hope this bar is not approved. The scratches and misspellings in the application are hysterical. The person is throwing around "classy" (a bad adjective for a business if ever there was one) and "new concept". This project looks to be better suited for a spot in a strip center, by a K-Mart store, than downtown Greenville. :sick:

You are right.

I'd normally hold my opinion too, but this application reeks of amateur mom and pop. With the intense bar/restaurant competition in DT Greenville and the high level of performance set by many of the existing operations, this application seems to be out of the league.

I want to see truely fresh, unique restaurants/bars continue to open and continue to take the scene to an even higher level (think Tyler Florence or Schrager type places), not a mom and pop that probably won't make it.

Since this is a zoning hearing and not a design approval, I assume that we won't see any more information beforehand. So, based on this information, which is what the Zoning Board will also be confronted with, what do you say?

It doesn't take a great orator or English major to effectively manage a bar, or any establishment for that matter. Based on the fact that this will be a bar, I think the location is ideal. What else could effectively operate in that space? If they make it, they make it. If they crash and burn, then so be it. I don't see any reason to hold this back right now...

I would approve it then. The DPC would have a say in it later. Anybody know what's going in between Pomegranate and the old Spill the Beans location? They are renovating the space. It looks like the exterior will have the same paint color as Pomegranate. Construction continues on the indoor putt-putt course along Camperdown Way. Iplace is nearing completion. Oh and the latest rumor is Apple will be going downtown sometime next year.

The linguist in me cringed as I read that application. Nobody with a high school diploma should make errors like that, especially in an official application.

However, for me this comes down to a "lesser of evils" issue. Do these people seem like they have the ability to run a first-class bar, solely based on their application? No. But they have obviously been smart enough to make money somehow or else they would not be able to buy the property and start a business. Their attempt at an adult-oriented bar will still be better than what is currently there. And who knows, they might surprise us all. :)

Are you talking about the former Munchies location? I thought it was going to be a Pinkberry's.

No. That's going to be blueberryfrog, which is to the left of the restaurant. The space i'm referring to is right of the restaurant.

I see from Wikipedia that the downtown Greenville location is (was :( ) the highest grossing of the Port City Javas.

:( Greenville locations have closed due to local bankruptcy: http://www.greenvilleonline.com/article/20...SINESS/81106022 Wish corporate would have taken them over before they closed.

In hard economic times, businesses that thrive off of disposable income are the first to go ... that and the fact that I've all but cut out the Blackberry Slushin' Joes since I've been going to Weight Watchers surely hurt them as well. I'm gonna miss the Blackberry Slushin' Joes, but I'll just have to head down to the Liquid Highway.

Just saw this article on Market Watch.

It would appear from this that the problem is not with corporate but is more with the local franchise.

An article in the Journal says that CC3 LLC, the Covington local franchise, filed for bankruptcy on Nov. 5 and had between 50 and 99 creditors.

Seems another coffee company could move into the Wachovia Place location with ease. Such a great location.
