Senate passes statewide cable bill

New jobs + new investment into the state = cheaper cable. The deal sounds good to me and the article briefly touches on the side effects to some municipalities, but overall this looked pretty good. Anyone in the know have some better details on this?

Anything to stimulate competition.

I did look at AT&T's U-verse service which bundles TV and broadband internet services. I like the offers and prices and would be very likely to subscribe to it upon availabily as I could trim about 10 to 15 dollars a month off my TV and Internet expeditures while maintaining or geting better service.

AT&T argued for the rule changes so it can build a fiber-optic network.

Why does AT&T need this legislation to build a fiber network? I don't think there was a law in Michigan forbidding them from doing that!!!

Heard today that Governor Granholm signed the cable bill either last night or today.
