It’s able to blend in now amongst the plentiful undeveloped areas, but as Uptown gets more and more dense, it’s only going to accentuate its ugliness.

Also, the space in between Circa and it (not even sure what to call it) could be developed one day (perhaps sports bars or restaurants), but I feel like that crap would only steer developers away from what would otherwise be a FANTASTIC location. Shame.

When treated artistically, it could be an asset . The sculptural forms of transformers and their towers can look awesome when a good lighting designer gets a hold of them--at least at nighttime.

PS: Those 6-story Circa (I think that’s the name) apartments suck, too. Stuff like that should NOT get approved on prime real estate locations Uptown.

Regarding your first point, it's fairly well hidden, necessary and cost prohibitive to move.

Here are some key points as I see them from the article:

of course Mr Tepper stated he might want a new location for the practice fields and mentioned developing the old practice field site. Of course the city would have to be involved.

Maybe Tepper can buy Circa for $50 million and raze it for a project that connects to the practice fields.  One can dream. I know it's only .00000001% possibility, if that, but 50 million to a man like that is literally nothing so the ability is there.

I don't think Duke is in much of a mood for corporate citizenship these days. However, I could see this substation get consolidated with the one on the blue line at Renssalear -- the replacement could be built between 277 and the Carson off ramp (behind the Dog House). Polaris makes it look like this parcel is part of the 277 ROW.  This would certainly open up a good bit of land for development.

More retail will be HUGE there being across from the new  kimpton, across from romare bearden, and in between church and tryon streets. It'll be a lot better than what's currently (not) there.

Aw bummer - just read the article.  I was hoping for far more extensive improvements than what was described in the article.

I wonder if this is still on the table at all.  Looked like a vast improvement to that stretch of Church street.

Dust off this thread there is news and I think this area is about to pop due to the rumored under contract status of the Pipe and Foundry site.

This is a plan for some apartments and the older buildings of the Foundry will remain here on Cedar St.  This is the vacant land between BofA stadium, RR tracks and Cedar St right by the greenway tunnel under the RR tracks.  

@CLT Development might have more details but I am hearing it is 300 plus apartments.  Developed by Mill Creek Residential. 

Cedar Street is at the top of this proposed site plan.

It would be taller but they were able to bury some parking in the hill.
