Will the Shrine Bowl return to Spartanburg?

City officials think this is the ideal place for a few more years. We aren't so large that it goes unnoticed (unlike Charlotte) but we aren't too small to handle the crowds. Gibbs Stadium is the perfect size for it. This year's has been an overwhelming success. The decision won't be made until next year though....

We got the Shrine Bowl from Rock Hill in 2003, but does anyone know which cities hosted it before then?

Oh and congrats to the Tarheels, who beat the Sandlappers for the 4th time in a row. Article

prior to Rock Hill, it was in Charlotte at Memorial stadium. In a city that size, it really wasn't a "major" event and not very well attended. Don't know much about the years at Rock Hill.

If Spartanburg were to keep it, I think it might could be a good idea to somehow combined the two parades. Instead of having one on Tuesday night , with the next one on Sat, combining forces to really provide a great event during the week might be cool. That would require a more long term commitment which neither group would probably want to do. Just brainstorming.

We should hear something about the decision on the Shrine Bowl's future location today. Its between Spartanburg, Myrtle Beach, Raleigh, and Rock Hill. A successful bid would keep the game in Spartanburg for 5 more years. Apparantly Myrtle Beach is the biggeste competitor.

The Shrine Bowl is going to stay in Spartanburg at Wofford's Gibbs Stadium for the next five years. They met in Columbia today, and none of the other cities' representatives showed up. Spartanburg's determination payed off here, and I think its for the best. The past 3 year have been incredibly successful, and I'm certain that the next 5 will be as well. :shades:

"The (Spartanburg) community done a great job adopting the whole Shrine Bowl week,"
