Yeah, I was "shocked", when the 12th floor turned out to be a mechanical floor! The only problem I have is the facade facing south, for the money, they could have done way better on that. But it's a beauty looking down at it from fourth st!

I'm sure that anything being sold near the Courthouse or City Plaza 2 will be a privately developed mid-rise of some sorts....so don't worry. They'll be things built in that area in the next 5 to 10 years that should augment that section of downtown pretty nicely.

I knew the "wall" affect would happen with this building.....

Forgot to post this last week...

The new Courthouse glass facade has been lit-up :shades: from the Fourth Street side for the past couple of weeks now...it really illuminates from the south-end of the CBD...Very impressive IMO!

Maybe Hagetaka can get a pic with his special night camera

New courthouse to be completed in August

The 19th Judicial District courthouse on North Boulevard is undergoing the final 5% of construction and slated for completion in August, says Matt Tanory, senior project manager for Walton Construction. Once the $112.9 million, 11-floor courthouse is finished, the move of court operations from City Hall will begin. The court plans to reuse some fixtures and furniture from the courtrooms and offices while ordering some replacements. Tanory says he does not anticipate the building to be occupied before September or October. The move-in date was pushed back in part because the technology for the new courtrooms—screens, projectors, microphones and video capabilities—were ordered at the last possible moment to ensure that it was up-to-date, says architect Raymond “Skipper” Post. If the technology had been ordered when the rest of the project was bid out in 2007, it would already be obsolete. But that strategy has created some difficulty on the construction side; crews must work around mostly completed portions of the interior and coordinating installation to prevent theft. “The last 5% of construction is always the hardest,” Tanory says. “There are thousands of little details to finish up. So far, so good.”

The long-awaited move of the East Baton Rouge Parish Courthouse from its current quarters at 222 St. Louis St. to its new state-of-the-art building across the street at 300 North Blvd. is finally under way. Sheriff seeks garage entrance for inmates

East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff Sid Gautreaux said Wednesday he would like to see a new garage built in the rear of the 19th Judicial District Courthouse to better handle the coming and going of buses and vans that transport inmates to the downtown facility. The existing garage, or sallyport as court and law enforcement personnel call it, is located on St. Louis Street — the west side of the court building. The garage opens and closes so deputies can secure the inmates once inside the garage and then process them to holding cells inside the courthouse.

Several times a day, sheriff’s personnel are forced to block traffic on St. Louis Street in both directions for several minutes as the buses and vans enter and depart the sallyport
