I tried to search to see if someone has already posted this link, but didn't find anything... The RCPL has a great photo collection on flickr. I particularly like the pictures of The Big Apple and the Doug Broome's waitresses from the 40's that are half-naked wearing roller skates:

Thanks for the photo, I need to get out and take some shots. That plaza needs benches and a cool mural on that brick wall.

^Yeah, I think they would have done better making it a true interactive plaza instead of a passive park. Maybe this is a sign that First Citizens plans to develop the lot sooner rather than later?

If they plan on keeping it a park, would a fountain (along with the benches, etc.) not be a great addition?

Yep, that is Columbia College...was in that neighborhood on Holmes Ave. for Christmas dinner #3, day after Christmas...It was misty, nice & cool. It's good that I enjoy walking or jogging for several miles, else after eating so many good southern meals these past few days I'd become as big as Charleston Double-House.

I really like Forrest Acres with its huge imposing estates and park-like feel that we drove through & wish I had had a chance to explore it from to end to end...Columbia has more little hills (which I love) than I remember as a boy. Thomas Wolfe may not have been entirely correct when he said something like one (or so it was for me) can not come home again, though I'm sure he was referring to his house that was probably not there anymore. But I have thorougly enjoyed my eastern South Carolina journey with family and a host of new people I befriended in Charleston...

There hasn't been a photo of the day in awhile so I will add 2 pano's that I shot this weekend. I'm still working on the finer points of them, especially smoothing out the colors.

Wow, it's the megopolis in the heart of the state. That first pano should be in a PRT ad somewhere.
