174,290 Square-Foot Dome Nearly Completed in Anchorage

Didnt even know this was being built. Should be really nice for Anchorage.

When Gene Desjarlais dropped his daughter Emily off for junior high basketball practice in November 2002, he got a surprise.

The soccer and basketball teams were both practicing in the same tiny gym at Hanshew Middle School.

Desjarlais asked the coach why.

Not enough space, came the reply.

What a shame, Desjarlais thought.

Then the 49-year-old subcontractor had an idea. By spring, that idea will become the largest indoor sports facility in Alaska -- a cavernous, air-supported sports dome in South Anchorage that could change the landscape of Alaska sports by providing a warm, dry place to play during long, cold winters.

What will it be like?

^Nice, definately something alaska needs with their weather. But to have a facility like that really helps Anchorage.
