Italian eatery, steakhouse among 11 new restaurants coming to Baton Rouge area, Lafayette

Lafayette-based Double R Restaurant Group plans to open 11 new restaurants across Louisiana over the next two years, including a high-end steakhouse in the River Ranch traditional neighborhood development and wine bars in Gonzales and Central.
Those include River Ranch; the 344-acre Conway community on La. 44 just south of Interstate 10 in Gonzales; and the Settlement at Shoe Creek, which will be off Sullivan Road in Central.
Double R operates 25 Another Broken Egg Cafe locations, making it the largest franchisee in the chain. Stuart Ottinger, president of Double R, said the company plans to build on its experience with Another Broken Egg in developing the new restaurants.
The plan is to hire 30 to 40 people at each restaurant.

http://theadvocate.com/news/business/16023966-123/zaxbys-plans-location-in-front-of-costco-in-baton-rouge

Zaxby’s, the Georgia-based chicken chain, plans to build a nearly 3,850-square-foot restaurant on an outparcel in front of the Costco store on Airline Highway near Interstate 12.

According to a building permit application filed with the city-parish on Friday, the restaurant will be at 10011 Dawnadele Ave. It will feature a drive-through window.

Since the fall of 2015, Zaxby’s has opened locations in Denham Springs, Gonzales and Zachary. A restaurant is under construction in the Long Farm traditional neighborhood development at Airline Highway and Antioch Road and a permit has been issued for a Zaxby’s in the Greens at Millerville development at the intersection of Millerville Road and Interstate 12.

Zaxby's has a bigger menu (their salads are legit)....but their chicken fingers just make me want Cane's.   If I'm going to consume 1,000+ calories in one setting, I'd prefer Cane's.

Both Zax and Canes are known for clean locations, excellent employees, and efficient service.

I guess this doesn't really belong here since its not confirmed that they are building it here yet, but I still thought it was a neat story. I had learned in a business class that Starbucks opened upscale locations in China since fresh coffee isn't a big a priority over there. This would be neat to put in the mall or Perkins Rowe. Think they just need to fill Perkins Rowe up completely with restaurants.

Starbucks plans new upscale chains

CEO Howard Schultz says the company will create a new line of stores called Starbucks Reserve-only, CNNMoney reports. These locations will offer premium, small lot reserve coffee in more of a café environment than existing Starbucks stores.

The new Reserve-only stores will be about twice as large as current Starbucks stores. The cafés will be in hundreds of locations, and they’ll start popping up next year.

The Starbucks Reserve-only brand is part of a broader company strategy to improve and expand its food offerings.

CNNMoney has the full story.

Rotolo’s owner plans restaurant, retail development at Ben Hur and Burbank

Rotolo’s owner Mitch Rotolo has plans to build a commercial and retail development at the corner of Ben Hur Road and Burbank Drive, and has submitted an application to the Planning and Zoning Commission for approval of the final development plan.

Rotolo declines to provide additional details about the planned unit development, except to say it will be a retail strip center with a drive thru. The application identifies the project as being called Rotolo’s Plaza.

According to documents filed with the Planning Commission for the Dec. 19 meeting, the strip center would include 8,300-square-feet of commercial space for a restaurant and 8,100-square-feet of commercial space for retail.

I was in town recently and I could not get over the development along Burbank.

Also Burbank related - the traffic problems on the surface streets seems to be catching up to the traffic issues seen on I-10/12.   They just widened Burbank less than 7 years ago, and it's already getting heavy again.

I'm honestly not sure why so many apartments are being approved in that area.   The infrastructure just can't handle it.  The growth in that area needs to be far less dense to have less impact on arterial traffic.

Seems like and interesting place for a Sonic but I guess it's a testament to downtown's development. But I'll be happy when it opens, I'll probably be stopping there every other day for a cherry limeade.

Sonic set to open downtown location

A Sonic drive-in is set to open in downtown Baton Rouge during the spring.

A building permit was issued Thursday for a 2,204-square-foot restaurant at 982 Government St.

Kent Walker, who owns the site along with Donnie Jarreau, said the plan is to start construction of the restaurant in about a week. The goal is to open the Sonic by the end of March.

Saltgrass Steak House signs lease for old Coyote Blues space on S. Acadian Thruway

Saltgrass Steak House, a Houston-based chain with 55 locations across the U.S., has signed a deal to open a restaurant in the former Coyote Blues space near the intersection of S. Acadian Thruway and Interstate 10.

Plans are to extensively renovate the 8,500-square-foot space at 2450 S. Acadian Thruway to convert it from a Mexican cantina to a rustic space fit for Texas ranchers. The restaurant is expected to open by the summer, said William Hoffpauir, an agent with Marcus & Millichap who was marketing the building for its owners.

Saltgrass is owned by Landry’s Inc., the restaurant and hospitality company whose properties include Landry’s Seafood, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., Morton’s The Steakhouse and the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. There are currently three Saltgrass Steak Houses in Louisiana: Lafayette, Bossier City and Lake Charles.

Saltgrass is pretty good, but I'm surprised they'd open directly across from another steakhouse.    Still a good spot for a restaurant.   Lots of local and freeway traffic right there, with a lot of businesses that can keep it busy during lunch hours.

I passed by Sonic and it looks like it's getting the stone facade treatment. I mean, yeah it's still a fast food stop downtown but atleast it'll look nicer.

I read that it might be two floors.  Is that right?

Popular New Orleans restaurant Dat Dog to open 3 Baton Rouge locations

http://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/entertainment_life/food_restaurants/article_d11a2c54-26b6-11e7-8227-93733b1fa200.html

Dat Dog, a popular New Orleans chain that specializes in gourmet hot dogs and sausages, is slated to open three locations in the Baton Rouge area beginning in late 2017.

Exact locations for the new restaurants are still being finalized, the company said. But Bill DiPaola, president and chief operating officer of Dat Dog Enterprises, said Friday that at least one will be in Baton Rouge proper, while the other two locations may be destined for the suburbs.

"It's about getting to where not only the young people that come to our business frequently live, but also where the young families who frequent our business live," DiPaola said.
