back to Pontiac, I like the communications tower and along with a couple other buildings (hospital or dte I think), it has a good looking skyline, are there any spots where there is a good shot of the whole thing? does anyone have a pan pic?

Here are the pictures I took. Sorry, I wasn't able to get a picture of all Pontiac's big buildings. I know this is a "photo" of the day thread but I'm sure you all would like to see the pics I took all at once instead of having to post one every day.

"Built between 1845 and 1930, this neighborhood of 93 structures remains a turn-of-the-century appearance with its mix of Greek Revival Italianate, Queen Anne, Stick style and Colonial Revival architecture. During Michigan's early period of industrial growth (1880-1920), prominent leaders of Michigan's timber, mining, publishing, carriage and automobile industries made their homes in this area. Most notably, the 1848 Italian Villa style Myrick-Palmer House located at 223 West Huron Street was home to Charles H. Palmer, a nineteenth-century educator and copper miner. Also significant was 269 West Huron Street, home to Oliver Leo Beaudette, whose father founded the O.J. Beaudette Body Co., believed to be the first to use metal on automobiles."

Downtown has so much potential, and for a city its size has one of the finest collections of historic architecture, I've seen. It just needs a little polishing up. It's so unfortunate that Oakland County didn't grow around Pontiac. Despite being centralized within the county, the sprawl of Metro Detroit has put it at a forgetable edge.

Zach, do you belong to Skyscraperpage.com, as well? I'm sure people would love to see this tour in the "City Photos" section over that way.

Ian, I've been looking up any info online about Casa del Ray and have only managed to come up with a pdf from June 30, 2002 that lists development in Pontiac anticipated to start in 2003. It says...

Case del Ray Apartments- Rehabilitation/Remodeling of existring structure, which consists of 24,000 square foot 4 1/2 story Spanish Electric masonry and cast concrete building (with basement). The unit mixes for the facility will remain as follows: (9) studio apartments with one bath. (23) One bedroom, one-bath units. (16) Two bedroom, one-bath units. (1) Three bedroom, two bath unit. The lower level will be remodeled to include the following uses: laundry, tenant storage area lease/management office. The parking will be provided on the existing parking lot in the back of the building. The project when completed will be eligible for Historic Tax Credits. Work necessary to obtain approvals by the State Preservation Officer and the National Park Service is included in the work.

Lmichigan, the high-rise you are referring to is the Riker Building. It was built in 1928.

All I know about that one is that it says Masonic Temple on the front of the one floor part of it.
