What do you wish for Richmond in 2007

But if downtown has chains and independents just like the suburbs, what reason is there for suburbanites to come downtown to begin with? Right now with downtown's population relatively low but growing, it depends on people who live outside of it to visit and spend money. To me anyway, the draw is all of the unique shops and restaurants you'd never find anywhere else, all in walking distance to eachother. I know if I lived in the West End, I wouldn't drive downtown to go to Ruby Tuesdays when there are probably 2 or 3 of them within 5 minutes. Like I said, fill in Broad with whatever you like just to give it some life again... that area, with the Convention Center, Coliseum, and hotels, would be catering more to "outside of the metro area" visitors anyway and they often want a familiar place to go to. But the rest of downtown and surrounding neighborhoods I'd like to keep a strong, unique character.
