Childfree, just like Helen Mirren!

She was interviewed by Morley Safer on 60 Minutes last evening.

Morely Safer: "Do you ever regret not having children?"

Helen: [emphatically] "No."

She went on to say that not having children meant having freedom and

she's glad she didn't have any children to get in the way of that.

I HATE that it is even considered acceptable to ask a professional,

successful woman such a question. We have a long way to go...

Daddy-O:

I know you don't mean to be rude, but how you posed this question I found a little offensive.

"How many children do you have? (Including adopted or foster)"

C'mon now, do you really think my mother would say, "I have one son and I also have six adopted girls and two adopted boys, so that's a total of nine children!"

No way....

You'd be amazed at how many times i've been asked when i'm going to quit my career and have babies. It's highly inappropriate and highly unprofessional, but for some reason it's thought to be okay to ask a woman that.

ETA - that's not directed at anybody here, but towards the article. I get what she's saying.

We keep talking about this whole career crap when babies come up. Apparently, I'm supposed to stay home with the kids now. I was hoping for all boys, so when wife is away at work that leaves us boys to shoot off fireworks, play baseball, build forts, bb guns, ding dong ditch, banana in tale pipes, pretending to be mayor on the phone, etc... That's all my uncle did all day with my cousins -- friggin cake walk .... I still would appreciate a set of girls -- just way easy to deal with.
