Statewide "conservation and humanities" sales tax

I think it's a good idea, but I'm a bit concerned. With that, our sales tax in Bemidji will rise to 7.375%. That is starting to get pretty steep.

Nonetheless, we're a state with a tradition of high quality arts programs and good environmental stewardship. It would be nice to see some of that money going towards purchasing land and holding it as public land that won't be exploited for resources. We need more wilderness and recreation areas.

It'd also be nice to see more educational opportunities in our schools for environmental programs and arts. Perhaps some of it could go for expanded programs like the Perpich school for the arts. The high school only has spots for 310 students, and I think it could be expanded so that more students had hte opportunities of an arts-centered education.
