baton ROuge 200
Kick-off event

2017 is going to be a great year for Baton Rouge, marked with a major yearlong celebration! We are officially celebrating Baton Rouge's Bicentennial with Mayor Sharon Weston Broome on Tuesday, January 17th, 11AM in North Boulevard Town Square. The event produced by the Downtown Business Association & Visit Baton Rouge will include a press conference, live music, and a preview of what is to come in 2017 from the downtown attractions! Everyone is encouraged to wear "Red" next Tuesday to show your support!

On behalf of the Baton Rouge Bicentennial Committee, we invite and encourage you to help Louisiana's capital city recognize and celebrate 200 years as an incorporated city. While the area was founded in 1699, it wasn't until 1817 that the city of Baton Rouge was incorporated. Now, 200 years later we're celebrating this milestone and we'd like for you to join us!

Throughout the year, bicentennial themed events, exhibits, products, and more will be branded with the official Baton Rouge 200 logo.

This race is a local Thanksgiving tradition - one that serves the community by keeping us active and fit through racing. The event is also a fundraiser for the March of Dimes, helping the organization both financially and by spreading the word about the work they do. Start your Thanksgiving off with a 5K in Downtown Baton Rouge!

Work on the second phase of the Town Square will start on Aug. 29. This will involve making improvements on the streetscape down to River Road, reconfiguring the area between Fourth and Fifth streets, creating a seamless flow for pedestrians and bicyclists from North Boulevard to Galvez Plaza, opening up parking by the Old State Capitol and creating a space to unload for events in Galvez Plaza. Rhorer said the $2 million project will take about eight months to complete.

That library is every bit as ugly in the flesh as I predicted it would be....and then some.

LOL! Well one of my adult resolutions  was to be more positive , so to your comment I'll say...

But think of it this way, in 50 years when it's old and dusty, maybe they'll rebuild it again in a nicer design.
