Lawmaker seeks 8 Lanes for I-44 and I-70

Saying the state has a "crisis in transportation," a northern Missouri lawmaker is pushing a proposal to expand interstates 44 and 70 to eight lanes with designated passages for trucks.

A 1-cent sales tax increase for 10 years would pay for the highway overhauls, under legislation the chairman of the Senate transportation committee filed Thursday.

"I think it's an economic opportunity," said state Sen. Bill Stouffer, R-Napton. "These are major arteries
