West Virginia's Miners Take Many Risks

This long article in the Washington Post highlights a few of the resons why many who work in the dark and dangerous coal mines of West Virginia take the significant risks. It's all about money in an area where few find the opportunity to make as much money doing something else. I found the article depressing on many levels. On a brighter note, it is good to see that the coal companies are finally being forced to assume greater responsibility for their workers' safety.
