As in other mountain counties before, a Windmill proposal is in the works for Big Springs Mtn. in Ashe Co.'s Creston community. While the farming community generally supports this along with the environmentalists; there are some who are opposed to this type of project even though it would have the potential to provide pollution free power to many homes. Realtors are the most vocal advocates.

I think that this actually could be a win for Ashe Co., who's economic base is very fragile. It would provide the clean source of energy as well as an additional potential tourist draw. Thoughts?

I hope this can be made to happen - from a climate standpoint, Ashe Co is perfect. The opponents are correct to be concerned about the views - that is a beautiful area, and the design should be as careful as possible. But it could be a real boost economically, and if it succeeds, even moreso, as there are very few other places in the state so well-suited for something with definite growth potential.

The NC Utilities Commission opposes this project based on the state's ridge law. However, the Attorney general may step in. There is another meeting concerning allowing or disallowing this tonight in Ashe Co. Let's hope people have a vision for our future and this get's adopted.
