could there really be a cure for AIDS or is this just an attempt to sway public opinion about IRAN and its intentions that its a peaceful nation not seeking technology for nuclear missles? If Iran has indeed discovered a cure for AIDS, we'll probabally see a sexual revolution with more unprotected sex. Iran says its a drug called IMOD which boosts the body's immune system.

If one reads the actual announcement quoted by that news source, then it appears the Iranians have not made this claim. They have produced a drug that eases the suffering caused by the virus, (like a whole host of others) but it does not "cure" the patient of the virus.

It's bad reporting, nothing else.

viruses tend to mutate. Sometimes I wonder if AIDS could ever mutate in an airborne disease where the virus can survive outside the body and one day you may be able to catch it the same way we catch colds. If that ever happened, say goodbye to the human race.

There is no cure for HIV infection, and I highly doubt scientists in Iran will be the ones to accomplish it.

It still might be quite some time until an actual cure is available. But these days the treatments for HIV have been practically miraculous. I've personally known people that were tested positive for the virus 20+ years ago. They take the newer medications, and they're in great health and are never in the hospital.

Debilitating deaths from AIDS are not common in the West these days...mainly in Africa and Asia, where treatment options are limited.
