Great Moments in Greenville History

Anyone remember the concept Kroger grocery store that was where Burlington Coats is now? I forget its name, and I was in the 80's, but I would think most of today's trends in groceries that we take for granted were tried out there, some tried and forgotten.

I remember the mix your own soft drink station or the indoor hot dog cart among other things. I think it was only open a few years, but that store for the 80's seemed way ahead of its time.

Yeah, Jarvis is right, it was called Welcome, most people never knew it was a Kroger concept. Not only did it take up where Burlington Coat Factory is now, but the old Office Max next door too. Place was huge. That shopping center is still called the Welcome Plaza or something like that. I worked at that Office Max long ago.

Welcome was indeed a very nice store. They had a large soda pop station where you could try out any number of a wide variety of drinks for free. In a way, I am still sad that Bi-Lo bought them out, but it was "soon" to be followed by Bi-Lo's building boom, which of course helped a local business grow.
