The Promenade At Chenal

Recommended Posts

I've been watching this topic for some time, because I'm really anxious to see what's coming to the new shopping areas of WLR. As for me and my husband, we'll drive to Memphis in order to find quality clothing, big selections of home interiors/fashions (etc.), and a huge variety of cuisines (not just brand name restaurants). I find this true of most other couples that I talk to regarding LR shopping. Little Rock doesn't have HomeGoods, so I will make weekly drives from WLR to Conway. Conway has both a HomeGoods and a plus-square-footaged Pier1. Bryant has a Kirkland's Home Store and a Lowe's. Memphis has several Macy's, Nordstom's, and Costcos (to mention just a few). Shackleford Crossing has disappointed me so far, and I'm hoping the Promenade adds at least one of the stores or cuisines that I now travel 1/2 an hour to 2 1/2 hours one way in order to find competive prices, selection, good shopping environment, etc. I remember when the Butcher Shop seemed to be out in the middle of nowhere. I'm sure that this area of Chenal at some time in the near future will seem like WLR's town center (the way things are growing out Chenal & Hwy. 10).

I would hardly call HomeGoods, Kirklands, or Pier 1 upscale. To me there there is not much in Memphis that LR does not have now, especially with the recent additions of Apple, J Crew, Pottery Barn, and Williams Sonoma. I would rather keep the tax dollars in state, and the better our local stores perform, the better chance other retailers will want to locate here.

I agree. There are reasons our family periodically goes to Memphis, but shopping is rarely one of them - especially now.

I've never gone to Conway for shopping.

Welcome to the forum. I do not believe Promenade At Chenal will address many of your concerns. Macy's and Nordstrom are the only two tenants that would be a good fit in my opinion. So far, neither has surfaced as a possible tenant for this development. Of course, Macy's or Nordstrom may be looking at this site, but so far no one has any info about this.

I've always wanted a Costcos in Little Rock because they accept American Express. I like my rewards points. Unfortunately, Arkansas is Wal-Mart country. I doubt we'll see Costcos for years, if ever.

Of the tenants that you mention, Nordstroms is the tenant that would be the biggest draw. I'm indifferent to Macy's. I recognize that they would be new to Little Rock, however Dillards and Macy's are the same.

Macy's is the only major advantage the Memphis department store scene has over LR. If Summit Mall would have been developed, LR would have Macy's as well. Memphis does not have a Nordstrom or a Saks, so you must not be driving to Memphis to do your shopping. You must be thinking Dallas because they do have several Nordstrom, Saks, Macy's, etc.

Dillards was the named anchor for the Summit Mall, not Macy's. I would not consider Macy's a major advantage. Macy's in on par with Dillards. I think Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, Bloomingdales, and Saks Fifth exceed Dillards and Macy's.

Macy's on average (never mind stores like Herald Square in New York) may indeed be largely comparable in price points and merchandise range to Dillard's. But, since Macy's is the larger chain, its connections in the retail industry are likely stronger. Its recent advertising campaign which touted various celebrities and their branded products further fuels this perception. That commercial is also evidence that more of the Macy's marketing is now national, specifically in primetime network television. Compare this with the select nationwide channels targeted by Dillard's, like Cond

I am new, so if this a old question...sorry

Do you (anyone) think the "powers" of Little Rock/Dillards other store owners keep development from here? Or do they just not see us?

I so want a Carrel and Barrel, Restoration Hardware, World Market, Macy's...I know I keep the Fedex and others busy.

I think some of that might be going on, at least it probably did historically (Dillards). However, I think now it has more to do with the lack of a viable development. As has been mentioned earlier, none of the current developments are both large enough AND high-end enough (there are several that are one or the other, but not both).

This is Park Plaza West!!! it reall is. nothing really new, minus the Apple store. With the opening less than 6 months away, how longer do you think we will have to wait for a complete list of stores? I would have thought that the Apple store would have helped some what. Do you think there are things we dont know yet?

Welcome to the board.

I know that you are from Louisville and are used to having more retailers and even though Promenade Chenal is turning into Park Plaza West there are some things coming there that locals are excited about. J Crew has been one of the most requested retailers by members of this board as well as Apple. The IMAX is a big deal as well. Little Rock has an IMAX already, but it doesn't show first run movies, this one will.

A couple of silver linings about Park Plaza West. It shows that Little Rock (and not just central Arkansas) is getting large enough to support more than one of these retailers. Second, it almost guarantees that Park Avenue will have many new tenants that are new to the market.

Easy yes, closer I guess. I still want better for this city.

I have been in Arkansas off and on the last 14 years. I see that Arkansas "powers" do things to benefit themselves first. Some things take to long and a lot of the " city planning" lay outs ...did they think about growth at all? Don't get me wrong I love Little Rock now, but the decisions our leadership makes, is often confusing to say the least.

Very nice. Glad to see more validation of the Apple Store, since there was some question about it....where did you find this? What is the link above (Southern Reprographics)?
