Dell accepted taxpayer assistance for a plant in Forsyth County that is in turmoil, yet they can afford $2.5 million for naming rights at a baseball park near Austin. Interesting...

Dell is adding very little to our community... I wonder if they even purchased a corporate box or advertising at the downtown stadium?

ha ha I've finally had the time to start updating my website. All the First Horizon stuff is gone. Im thinking about adding a contributor's section in the photo gallery. So if anybody have any good photos, i'll be glad to add them and give you credit below the photos. When I first started the site, it was the official campaign website back in 2003.

I also look forward to seeing one of you create a Dash stadium website soon. Jerseyboy, since you have so many construction photos, you might think about doing that.

Its been 5 years since this ballpark opened but it continues to be a great success. The stadium will reach the 2.5 million mark in attendance tonight. After 5 years the Grasshoppers ranks second in attendance this year in the Sally league. This year New Bridge Bank Park also ranked second in attendance in the state after Durham Bulls Athletic Park. We could be seeing some development next to the ballpark shortly. A few city council meeting ago, the owner of the land asked the city to close some alleys on the property. Usually that is done in anticipation for the site being developed.

ACC Baseball Tournament attendance record has been broken at NewBridge Bank Park in downtown Greensboro. 10,229 people attended the UNC and NC State game. The game sold out 20 minutes before starting. Its also the largest crowd for a college baseball game in North Carolina history. The last time the attendance was this large at the ballpark was the first game played there (Florida Marlins exhibition game in April 2005) If you live on the third floor of the Greenway at Fisher Park Apartments you can actually see the game from the balconies. The ACC Championship game (Miami vs GA Tech) is on ESPN2. This is the second time Greensboro has hosted the ACC Baseball Tournament. The tournament is rotated between Durham and other ballparks in ACC states.

article on how the ballpark has and is attracting development. Roy Carroll mentions that in addition to his 8-story 100 room hotel he plans to build across the street from the ballpark, his mixed use project will also include residential buildings. It remains to be seen how tall those residential buildings will be. Also this week the Greenway at Stadium Park Apartments overlooking left field will be under construction next week. That project is phase 2 of the Greenway at Fisher Park. Construction on the next phase of CityView Apartments at Southside on the other side of downtown will also begin next week. The ballpark has attracted development. The performing arts center will do the same. The timing of the construction of the PAC has already spurred plans for two downtown hotels.

Its hard to believe that next year NewBridge Bank Park will be 10 years old. It opened as First Horizon Park with the first game being an exhibition game between the Florida Marlins and the Greensboro Grasshoppers. I was there. It was a chilly day outside but it was a packed house.
