I was hearing rumors and buzz on this project and now all seems quiet. Is it still scheduled to start in 2008? Still on?

Now I know why it went quiet. See article below. Project is on hold. Not shocked either, as most of the upscale retailers being targeted by this development have committed or will be committing to another development nearby. :whistling:

Well, this is interesting. There are two new site plans but I don't know which one is right. One is on page 11 and another is on page 18: http://www.choldings.com/Marketing%20Packa...lace%202009.pdf

I Liked this project the moment I saw it but always questioned whether or not we had the density to support it. It would definately do wonders for the Haywood area. It would compete with Magnolia park though. I remember when we had two Greenville Malls too close to one another and that didnt work out too well and that was during better economic times.

The one on page 18 is the site plan. The one on page 11/12 is an aerial rendering (and an out-of-date one, at that ... Circuit City is gone).

The property owner is asking for a rezoning. Their justification: it is surrounded by other commercial development, and the market has changed. Just because something is surrounded by commercial does not mean that it was developed appropriately, or that it should stay that way. I hope the City denies this proposal. Leave it as is if you're serious about your Haywood Road Master Plan, and changing the way Haywood Road functions.

Wait, I thought this was changed to apartments only. 'Residences at Haywood' was the name. Either way they've been doing site prep for months now.

Do you have a link to that site plan page gman?

Half of the site was changed to apartments. The other half of the site is still slated for a commercial development. The site plan was on Collett's website but I can't seem to find it now.

Nice! Thanks for finding and posting this gman! I was under the impression the retail/restaurant portion had been scuttled but it appears to still be on track. This will be a fantastic new shot in the arm for the Haywood Road area. I'll have to ride by the apartments site and see if anything has gotten off the ground yet.

I love how they totally ignore the lake (okay, maybe big pond) in front of Flour and just back everything up to it or put parking near it.  God forbid anyone might want to look at something pretty.  A restaurant with a lake side deck, put the pool/clubhouse/heck-anything for the apt complex near water and nature instead of surrounded by asphalt?  Oh well....  :dontknow:
