These are awesome pix K-burg.  Thank you.  I think to fill in that parking lot between Gantt Center and St. Peter's is one of the most important developments for Uptown.  As important to south Tryon as is the parking lot on Trade next to the Presbyterian church.

Along Trade, these are the parcels, in ranking order of importance(IMHO) to the urban fabric of Trade Street.  Feel free to disagree.

#3 is owned by JWU, so I doubt anything will come of that lot other than it’s current use.

Updated rendering on the project website.

www.allycharlottecenter.com

- Shows enhanced office entrance fronting Tryon

- Shows a bit more articulated set of retail facades

- Includes JW Marriott in rendering as opposed to massing only in previous version

- The mechanical screening now looks more like screening and less like glass additional floor

All in all, except for the top, it's a marginal improvement

I think the street-scape and retail look good here.  It will be interesting to see what kind of retail gets put in, and if it is anything that can draw people into the courtyard.  I hope I'm wrong, but I have a hunch it will be $$$$ high dollar restaurants and not much else given what else is going on the plot and all the neighboring clientele.

The grid on the Ally Center looks nice, and I think the JW looks sleek in this view.

Anyone know if the mechanical screening is going to have any lighting effects?  It looks like it has a glow in all the renderings I've seen.

It will absolutely be LED lit. That was a big deliverable from the very beginning for Crescent.

The J. P. Caldwell historic marker is not on these renderings. It is on a post in the sidewalk on the Tryon side of this site facing the (former) location of the newspaper he edited and later owned.

(The Goodyear shop was my walking distance auto shop and I had time to kill walking around the block there and reading the marker)

The Carolinas AAA auto club had its offices in (perhaps) the last surviving house on South Tryon until the early 1970's. I recall it facing the Observer building so it was on this site or perhaps across Hill Street.
